Project"],"creator_tesim":["Ziegler, Earl K."],"subject_tesim":["Spouses of clergy","Divorce","Church work with divorced people"],"abstract_tesim":["The aim of this Doctor of Ministry project is to help the Church of the Brethren denomination identify the factors involved in the breakdown of marital relationships among the Church of the Brethren clergy. The purpose of the project is to gain insight into a serious problem the Church of the Brethren must address; namely separation and divorce among the clergy of a denomination which has always acclaimed strong family life. The basic focus of this project has been to discover what factors divorced clergy and spouses identified as contributory to their divorce. From this gathered data and the analysis of it, the church denomination at its national, district, and local levels may be able to deal with this problem more redemptively and creatively. Data will be presented and suggestions will be shared for the denomination to examine and evaluate. Designed to discover what factors divorced clergy and spouses identify as contributory to their divorces, this project was limited to those persons who were divorced within the past ten years. Focus was placed upon recent breakdowns because the results of the findings will be more relevant to contemporary society and to the changing attitudes within the church. While the interviews did include several persons with administrative jobs, the basic focus was on the parish pastor who lived in the parsonage among the people of the community where he served. To uncover these factors twenty-eight 'main-line' Protestant church members were interviewed, each having been a member of a rural or small town church at the time of divorce.  The interviews revealed specific factors that caused some divorcing people to leave the church and other factors that enabled some to remain active.
