Focusing on congregations of the United Church of Christ in Wisconsin, I used surveys and interviews to study pairs of siblings where one sibling is active in congregation and the other is not. By analyzing the differences between siblings in life situations, personal experiences, and spiritual engagement, the wider church can achieve a better understanding of the Millennial generation and why some of them have chosen to participate in the church while others have not. Differences between siblings found to be significant include the religious level of spouses, self-identity as a person of faith, and LGBTQ+ identity. Surprisingly, my data suggests that Millennial siblings who identify LGBTQ+ are more likely to be actively involved in a church than their straight-identifying sibling. Hearing the voices of these Millennials directly provides perspective and understanding that the church is often missing in the conversations about this generation. Millennials who are participating in congregations are not doing so by accident, happenstance, or outside pressure–they are making active, intentional decisions to participate in church community because they care about the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860328045871104,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:27:12.428Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:16Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"04f02eab-f4ae-49e6-bf01-e0e7261c7f50","accessControl_ssim":["2464af0f-7fdf-4956-9417-a29dcb1e75f2"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["An approach to intergenerational worship in the local church: A dissertation submitted to the faculty in candidacy for the degree of Doctor of Ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:15Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T15:26:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fa7ef095-8d6c-4619-8af4-02227a88d749"],"hasLease_ssim":["cf755216-3925-4781-9220-5c60912603b7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. For the purposes of this project, I am defining it as worship that intentionally involves in a balanced manner the entire age span ranging from preschoolers to older adults as participants in the action of Christian worship…. The particular approach to intergenerational worship in this project is not a pre-conceived liturgy or set order of worship; but rather it is an open approach that values variety and diversity in worship… This project does not propose any closed theology of intergenerational worship. The intent of the writer is to encourage experimentation and to offer some possibilities alongside other innovations in worship for children, youth, and adults. The designing of intergenerational liturgies by this writer involves thematic unity. Without a fixed order to provide a framework for the liturgies, it is important that the theme of each celebration be the thread that holds the liturgy together. It is the writer’s intent that thematic unity will be evident in the four model liturgies in this project. However, thematic unity is not intended to be a basic tenet for all intergenerational worship, and it is not dealt with extensively in this project. A theological basis for intergenerational worship and developmental awareness are dealt with more fully in this project. Theological criteria, whether those presented in this project or not, are important when one is experimenting with innovations in worship. The theological criteria in chapter two of this project are basic to this writer’s approach to intergenerational worship in the local church. Sensitivity to people of all ages is vital for an inclusive, age-balanced liturgy; and so developmental awareness is a key ingredient in this writer's work with intergenerational worship."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860273832394752,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:26:20.727Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
