The research focused on how ten patients responded to the process of a chaplain obtaining a spiritual life review, and then compared their physical, cognitive, and affective responses to twenty patients in two control groups.  All thirty patients' responses were measured at the beginning and the conclusion of the study. The data obtained, which includes response from physicians to a write-up summarizing and assessing patients' history and a questionnaire patients returned following their discharge, indicated that sharing their history was a positive experience for ten of the twelve patients interviewed.
