It argues that, when thoughtfully integrated, sport can foster holistic growth in seminarians and priests through physical health, emotional maturity, fraternity, leadership, discipline, and evangelization. Using Richard R. Osmer’s practical theology framework and qualitative interviews with seven Catholic priests, the study engages Scripture, Church teaching, patristic sources, and contemporary scholarship. Findings highlight both benefits and risks, including exclusion and competitiveness. Project"],"creator_tesim":["Bertolette, Susan C."],"subject_tesim":["Faith","Children--Religious life","Pastoral theology"],"abstract_tesim":["The primary objective of this project is to help pastors and members of local churches better understand the value and importance of possessing a mature faith that embraces both a childlike spirit and such adult qualities as responsibility, discipline and patience, in order that we might live out, in the best and fullest way possible, our high calling as children of God and followers of Jesus Christ. Not only is the intent to help persons understand the value of possessing this kind of faith, it is to provide specifics as to how to go about doing this. To that end, this pastoral-theological essay establishes a scriptural basis for lifting up the importance of possessing a childlike spirit within the context of a mature and growing faith. A congregational assessment tool and process have been designed to help persons identify areas in the life of their church where such a spirit is alive and well and where it is not. The researcher is a district justice and a pastor.  He uses his position to extract information from both professions on their perceptions of each others roles.  The study is based on the experience of the researcher, instrumentation and a workshop.  It shows the need for more pastoral involvement in the courts and shows that both pastors and district justices are open to such ministry.  It clarifies the role of the pastor in the court and challenges pastors to become involved in court ministry.  The study addresses five concerns of the district justices regarding pastoral involvement in the courts.
