Patients often reveal their personal struggles to trusted caregivers at opportune times. One member of the care team, the hospice volunteer, is often perceived as a trusted confidant. Therefore, volunteers are in a unique position to provide spiritual care. This study investigated the role and aptitude of the hospice volunteer regarding the spiritual care of hospice patients, focusing on matters of guilt, regret, and forgiveness. Church life was differentiated into three levels: Pastorally, Relationally, and Congregationally. A group of people were interviewed who had received some type of healing and their lives and were asked to share how the church community helped in the healing process. The study includes a comparative analysis of the psychology of Carl Jung and the spirituality of John of the Cross.  The integrative approach of the model incorporates the intrapsychic, interpersonal, and transpersonal dimensions of the human personality.  The model can be adapted for use in different ministries, although this project focuses on the ministry of pastoral counseling.  The qualitative study yielded some initial insights that are tentative and inconclusive.
