The study is conducted through reading and analysis of the print resources, interviews with denominational personnel, extensive questionnaires to lay members of the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ and interviews with several selected congregations. The negotiating method is adapted from the Harvard Research Project.  Pastors and lay leaders in three congregations are involved in testing the model.  They meet with a facilitator for five sessions and use two test instruments, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and World View Test Instrument, to facilitate negotiations. It uses a didactic sermon form and employs the control group method of research.  The project shows that stating the sermon's intended main point in a propositional sentence in the first paragraph positively influences the effectiveness of some sermons.  A secondary finding is that some illustrative material significantly influences sermon effectiveness. The instruments are used and tested in the sessions of five Presbyterian churches of the Presbytery of Philadelphia, Presbyterian Church (USA). The author believes that the results would be similar in most institutions. From the applied research a sound theological rationale for administering communion to persons who are profoundly mentally retarded is developed. The project develops and tests a program and recommends it to the organization.  The thesis is that this program, which identifies and measures sixty-three components of a successful telephone counseling ministry, is essential to the creation of a recognized national network of teleministry centers.  A second goal is to provide a theological rationale for the commitment Contact has made to understanding its services as 'Christian ministry'. The researcher is a district justice and a pastor.  He uses his position to extract information from both professions on their perceptions of each others roles.  The study is based on the experience of the researcher, instrumentation and a workshop.  It shows the need for more pastoral involvement in the courts and shows that both pastors and district justices are open to such ministry.  It clarifies the role of the pastor in the court and challenges pastors to become involved in court ministry.  The study addresses five concerns of the district justices regarding pastoral involvement in the courts.
