By utilizing research and statistics, the writer sought to determine what the African American houses of worship are doing or not doing and what is needed going forward to help eradicate HIV/AIDS. What the writer discovered as a result of research, interviews, and workshops was that some of the clergy in the city and across the state of New Jersey were willing to start an HIV/AIDS ministry in their churches. The writer also documented the fact that there were those among the clergy willing to have someone come to their church once a quarter to speak on HIV/AIDS. Others were willing to put HIV/AIDS facts in their Sunday morning bulletins... Other pastors committed to providing pastoral care and counseling to those who were infected and affected. Yet because transmission of HIV/AIDS often involves forms of sexual contact and/or substance use which are condemned in most Christian communities, and because many persons living with HIV/AIDS have had deeply painful experiences with Christians, prejudice, fear, and pain create a gap between Christians and persons living with HIV/AIDS.  AIDS education within church communities needs to bridge this gap.  This project is a ministry tool in which Christian communities interact with a body of artistic work in order to shift misunderstanding, prejudice, and fear concerning persons living with HIV/AIDS.  The project shows that art can be used to bring about understanding, transformation, and dialogue. It explores the HIV/AIDS-related teaching and ministry of the guru H. H. Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati and her human care service organization the River Fund, both at Kashi Ashram in Sebastian, FL.  After providing her developmental biography, it summarizes her verbal, artistic, and kinesthetic forms of teaching.  She responds to HIV/AIDS with the Hindu concept of seva (service) that follows the Hindu religious path of Karma Yoga (action).  The project then examines the history and work of the River Fund, paying a particular focus to its de facto AIDS hospice, the River House.  The organization is unique in both the Hindu and American religious contexts.
