After developing a biblical theological framework for understanding normative patterns of discipleship in the Scriptures, the study reports on findings from semi-structured interviews with thirty participants recommended by their pastors and peers for their outstanding faith. All participants were forty years of age or younger, most of them were lifelong church members, and all were actively involved with large evangelical churches in the suburban South. Their spiritual formation involves church participation, but their self-reported focus centers on small, close-knit friendship groups, high engagement with Scripture and prayer, and caring for one another through suffering and sacrifice. Using a mixed methods approach of in-depth interviews, small group interviews, and document analysis, the project presents data from nine pastors and twelve young adults, along with analysis from Mosaic Young Adult Initiative documents. The findings suggest formational and missional value\r\nof a place-based church collaboration in the spiritual lives of young adults. Values and practices are identified for working with young adults, strengthening church culture, and positively influencing the community. Further, the project analysis highlights possibilities for collective impact and collective formation through a place-based church collaboration, informed by a\r\nspatial-ecclesial imagination. Such a theological vision compels churches to see and work beyond their own boundaries for broader city-wide influence and deeper discipleship of young adults. This research demonstrates the benefits of a place-based approach to church partnerships, spiritual formation, and missional engagement. It also suggests prospects for complementary strategies to church planting through place-based hub planting. A lack of space limits the number of student seats available, while tuition costs restrict access to families able to afford sky-high rates. Meanwhile, childcare teachers are paid low salaries for their services, and children living in poverty fall farther and farther behind. Such a challenge threatens not only a child’s livelihood, but also the congregation’s vision “that all may know God’s love.” This project will examine how the principles of adaptive leadership might reframe the congregation’s missiological understanding and practices via the work of education. For one such container, this paper explores the Eucharistic Meal, an adaptive re-integration of the symbolic Eucharistic ritual with shared communal meals, inspired by early Church gatherings. The author researched this subject matter by studying the history of racism and sexism in America and in the African American church.  She interviewed women preachers and male preachers who have had a history of supporting, affirming and celebrating women in ministry and in leadership roles in the church.
