The project had three phases. First, the project director researched, gathered information, and organized an annotated bibliography that provided knowledge and resources for understanding widowed member ministry. Second, the project director wrote curriculum to equip selected members of GMBC for ministry to widowed members. Third, the project director equipped selected members of GMBC with the understanding of the importance of spiritual gifts in ministry to widowed members, with a concern for the needs of widowed members, and the skills to minister to widowed members.A pre-test was given to each member before the first session, and a post-test was given after the last session to measure the increased knowledge of participants who minister to widowed members. Six one-hour equipping sessions were conducted on Sunday evenings. After each session, the participants divided into small groups for twenty minutes, to discuss any questions, have time for prayer, and interject roleplay exercises. After the final session the director gave a post-test to the participants to measure what they had learned during the sessions. The director distributed commitment cards to challenge participants to minister to the needs of widowed with their giftedness."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715467713052672,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:46:58.396Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:34:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:05:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a8ed6ee5-6140-4591-9164-7b965901c55d","accessControl_ssim":["c5e7f9f6-54d2-48e8-9c15-68d32854286c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a Pastoral Care Manual to Raise Awareness of Multicultural Death and Dying Rituals at Gwinnett Medical Center, Lawrenceville, Georgia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:34:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:01:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["499f4752-204a-4a40-8e8c-99ab17933a35"],"hasLease_ssim":["4d04602a-8b87-4141-a6af-8eda094b93be"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Peter Kendrick"],"year_tesim":["2021"],"location_tesim":["Georgia"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Among the pastoral care services offered at GMC, an examination of many hospital manuals showed a lack of information and resources on death and dying rituals and faith practices, especially for those with focus on the four leading religions: Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. A manual that centered on these four religious groups, along with providing information on religious death and dying rituals, would not only be helpful for new intern Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) chaplains and staff chaplains, but would also benefit the interdisciplinary medical staff in helping them treat patients and families with respect and dignity. In order to complete this project, the project director examined research in the field of pastoral care on the beliefs and rituals of four leading religions: Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. She also investigated significant time studying how to design and write a manual. The result was a comprehensive, but not exhaustive, manual about these four religions that focused on their history, beliefs, teachings, practices, and death and dying rituals. Furthermore, the project director personally interviewed a spiritual leader representing each of the four major religions presented in this document for their review and evaluation of the accuracy of its contents."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125041738416128,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:05:49.777Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:20:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:51:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8ab82a8e-56d0-45ea-a061-8541701a97ad","accessControl_ssim":["ce0a8cc3-710c-4216-bc01-2e37c24fe5b5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral care for the bereaved through the first memorial service"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:20:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:12:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["85c990cb-e172-4427-b03d-d7abfde9f877"],"hasLease_ssim":["a8bc2dc8-c2de-465c-ac25-3d5a81fb98dc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Kyunglim Shin Lee"],"year_tesim":["2020"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The author designed a particular form of the first memorial service to heal the wounded hearts of the bereaved. First, the author asked the bereaved families to prepare articles left by the deceased, which would allow them to remember their beloved parents, and then had the first memorial service in a chapel with the small group members to which the bereaved families belonged. The bereaved experienced the recovery of their wounded hearts by participating in the first memorial service, confirming that they were not completely separated from their parents, but still connected. The author conducted interviews and observations on two aspects - the daily life and the church life before and after the first memorial service - to track how the loss and grief of the bereaved families had been changed through the service. The author determined through the assessments that the first memorial service helped heal the wounded hearts of the bereaved and that they could play a positive role as members of the church community.' -- Leaf [2]."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719506170347520,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:51:09.770Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:06:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:44:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2e6d3857-0830-412a-a48b-3b0e849ac09e","accessControl_ssim":["baa2e2b7-8bf6-483b-a3b9-48f3bd23e13e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Increasing the Understanding of Grief and Addressing the Needs of the Grieving in Ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:05:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:29:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b6487c7e-0c12-4100-829c-a567e2b67da4"],"hasLease_ssim":["b5942fde-ecc6-4d2b-b5ac-343394199c30"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Mercer University, McAfee School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Jeffrey Willetts Ph.D.","Larry McSwain Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"location_tesim":["North Carolina","United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. I have served as an ordained pastor in this community for the past fifteen years. Through the funeral home, I serve as grief counselor. While assisting families in the latter capacity, it became apparent that many churches in the community did not provide care for the grieving beyond the funeral. With this information, this project was created. To reach the greatest number of people at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, the project began with a four-week sermon series. The series was designed to expose the congregation to the concepts of grief, how grief was expressed in the Bible, and the church’s responsibility to the grieving. On each Wednesday night following the Sunday morning sermon, the congregation was invited to ask questions or request clarification of the concepts presented in the sermon. This also allowed me to provide additional information about the scripture. At the conclusion of the series, they were given the opportunity to take part in a six-week focus group. The group would explore the topics further as well as identify any needs that may exist in Trinity’s approach to the grieving. The focus group met for six consecutive Sunday afternoons. They spent two weeks exploring the topics further. The following two weeks enabled participants to tell their story about grief and the support they did or did not receive. The final two weeks were spent uncovering ways that Trinity could provide additional support to the grieving. During this final two weeks, the group came up with two solid conclusions. Trinity could provide a monthly grief support group and could enhance the grief support through an existing committee at the church. There are other solutions that can be implemented in the coming years."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://hdl.handle.net/10898/12349"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719113258434560,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:44:55.060Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:41:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:30:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d68863b6-708c-4843-a01f-e6a4171ddab3","accessControl_ssim":["dda636a1-a12b-443a-92df-9c8a02fee916"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'Sing, O Barren One' : writing hymns to transform and to be transformed"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:41:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:15:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["022cd04f-680c-4e1f-adbb-d38f67e711d9"],"hasLease_ssim":["6775ddbd-d465-463e-ac29-c2bcc4ea069a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Eileen Guenther"],"year_tesim":["2019"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. First, to determine the skills necessary for effective grief ministry, he plans to research the field of grief ministry as it applies to ministering to families that have experienced the loss of a loved one. The second goal is to develop a workshop that will equip selected adults of Lowrey Memorial Baptist Church with grief ministry skills. The third goal is to present the workshop to the selected adults so that they will be better equipped to minister effectively to grieving families. The teaching methodology to implement the project included lectures, multimedia presentations, group sessions, and case studies. The project director evaluated the selected adult in the three domains of learning: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Using a post-workshop evaluation, the participants evaluated the project director’s instructional skills."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717392688873472,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:17:34.197Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:57:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:22:40Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5504f7d3-ca3a-4654-aad2-160c2c90383b","accessControl_ssim":["22cad24a-60b7-40cd-aff6-22a13dd88490"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'I miss him every day': providing a place for widows' grief in the local church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:57:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:37:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["23021f39-08a6-493c-b4fe-d4effe128f0d"],"hasLease_ssim":["d600196b-aec0-434a-8b3d-4f41370fb38a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Michael S Koppel"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
