Project"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Speckhard, Peter"],"subject_tesim":["Lutheran Church","Education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project evaluates a congregation's readiness to continue offering K-8 parochial education despite the contextual changes that make offering such a ministry increasingly difficult. The key question is whether the congregation understands the purpose of the parochial school in the same way that those who started the school understood their purpose in doing so. Institutions, including parochial schools, have a tendency to take their raison d'être for granted and begin to exist for the sake of perpetuating themselves as institutions. To re-dedicate to parochial school ministry in a worthwhile way that serves the true mission for which it was founded, a congregation must evaluate its own assumptions about, goals for, and perceptions of the school ministry. This project provides a template for honestly evaluating the pros and cons of continuing to operate a parochial school in difficult circumstances and honestly comparing the stated, original purposes for the school with the actual purposes for the school in the minds of the congregation members. The pastor of Union Baptist Church in Clarke County, Mississippi, is planning to launch Christian addiction-recovery ministries centered on weekday Celebrate Recovery [registered symbol] meetings. The ministries are collaborative works involving selected Chrsitians from Southern Baptist churches in the local Baptist associations. Phase two of these ministries include the addition of a rotating Friday night contemporary worship service at the same non-church locations where the weekday meetings will be held. Three goals are the foundation of this Doctor of Ministry equipping project. The first goal is to research addiction recovery in order to identify group facilitation skills. The second goal is to develop a curriculum to equip selected addiction-recovery ministry leaders in east Mississippi, in group facilitation skills. The third and final project goal is to equip selected addiction-recovery ministry leaders in east Mississippi, in group facilitation skills. By examining the historical case of Briggs v. Elliott and the present-day situation of county schools, the author found schools are technically desegregated but are far from integrated. Ninety-eight percent of the students are African-American. In present day Summerton, separate still exists and equality remains just out of grasp. Data was collected from archives, surveys, interviews, and published reports. Research included stories of ancestors, the Black church tradition and personal life stories. The church has an important role on educating families to survive and reshape society.
