Its purpose was to engage people of faith in significant encounters with the other, as presented through these different communities of faith. Elements of the study included lectures about the history and founding personalities of the religions; class discussion and personal sharing; experiences with food; meetings with spiritual leaders and believers; and opportunities of worship from each tradition. In addition we received materials and documents pertinent to our own faith tradition. Participants experienced significant growth in self-understanding and generated new insights about the 'other' and others as a result of this project."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716746540613632,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:07:17.981Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:01:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:02:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c5701e8a-a07d-402b-ae89-555d9baf7ab8","accessControl_ssim":["86d7625f-bba8-477c-a8b3-6c69c29f4ef0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The hindu and christian views of salvation according to the advaita vedanta and the new testament"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:01:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:48:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5c8fc92a-b756-4bdf-b25b-d643b5c61d78"],"hasLease_ssim":["8ed64e5a-2def-487a-ac07-13b256f06a39"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul Schilling"],"year_tesim":["1971"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It explores the distinctive nature, the bondage and liberation of man according to this Hindu philosophical view and Christianity. The former maintains the unity of the essential self and brahman, the ill consequences of Avidya and Karma and the way of freedom through Moksha. The latter teaches that man, the creature, estranged and enslaved in sin, is distinct from God, the creator, but he through faith can be reconciled to God by the death of Christ on the cross. Both schools perceive the unique relationship of man to the absolute but they hold divergent perspectives regarding the salvation of mankind."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720194036203520,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:02:05.770Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:00:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:30:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"117d2986-571a-48d3-9b03-7e88114cc3e3","accessControl_ssim":["d7a6c53e-fe7f-4242-9cdf-c7d63cd56b59"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Social ethics and a conversational model: a christian-hindu encounter"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:00:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:37:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e812d84b-953a-447a-bf90-ce420f19e188"],"hasLease_ssim":["437d9615-c5a6-42dd-a4dc-7de0b03ba4ba"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James Pyke"],"year_tesim":["1974"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Section two presents a detailed outline of the social ethic of Advaita Vedanta, in terms of historical development, theology and scripture. Section three presents the actual project, an encounter between a group of Indian Christians and Indian Hindus, all of whom are engaged in health or population issues professionally. It explores the HIV/AIDS-related teaching and ministry of the guru H. H. Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati and her human care service organization the River Fund, both at Kashi Ashram in Sebastian, FL. After providing her developmental biography, it summarizes her verbal, artistic, and kinesthetic forms of teaching. She responds to HIV/AIDS with the Hindu concept of seva (service) that follows the Hindu religious path of Karma Yoga (action). The project then examines the history and work of the River Fund, paying a particular focus to its de facto AIDS hospice, the River House. The organization is unique in both the Hindu and American religious contexts. The project demonstrates how a medium-sized religious congregation successfully provides secular HIV/AIDS social services."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/15cf63e5-498f-4879-a0c8-ec619f16c801?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["15cf63e5-498f-4879-a0c8-ec619f16c801"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Doctor of Ministry Dissertations and Projects"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["061a0024-1d62-4dba-b274-091512484660"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["15cf63e5-498f-4879-a0c8-ec619f16c801"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["meadville.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["jdechant@meadville.edu"],"_version_":1787554386158813184,"timestamp":"2024-01-08T20:11:47.259Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
