Such an intensive approach increases sacramental knowledge and appreciation of the sacraments in the congregation, but it is only a beginning. Present practice is not consistent with historical Christianity nor with Wesleyan Methodism.  To be actively involved in the healing of the broken body of Christ this part of their heritage must be understood and reclaimed. Meeting with a reflection group, representative of the congregation, Methodist eucharistic heritage, ecumenical and liturgical renewal, and local customs were studied. The church year provided the vehicle through which themes of the eucharist were celebrated.  Taped interviews with the congregation following each service helped assess progress. This project critically examines spirituality and sacramental spirituality as related to the celebration of the Eucharist in weekly liturgical worship. The project results provide a foundation for a vision of sacramental spiritual growth.
