Systematic precautions against suicide in Korea, however, are insufficient compared to other developed countries. The author researched suicide prevention education for chaplain assistants so that it could be more effective. Many topics were discussed, including what chaplain assistants can strive for in terms of suicide prevention for soldiers who are living together with them in the army. His congregation is made up of soldiers who are twenty to twenty-two and do not like the army life. However, the soldiers encounter religions by choice in the military service. Many soldiers come into contact with Christianity. The author has thought about what these young soldiers want in their own spiritual lives and how the military church can help them. The author therefore asked the following questions regarding military mission in the light of pastoral care: (1) What is the meaning of military service for men, and what is the meaning of the period of military service in the life cycle? (2) What is the soldiers' life before enrollment in military service, and what do they think of their lives after their service is completed? Based on the questions above, the author researched the soldiers' change in their spiritual life, the improvement of their relationship, and their feeling about self-identity through Bible study and religious counseling."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126894064697344,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:35:16.294Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:13:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:07:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"64a56601-55dc-445a-9487-7089846275b7","accessControl_ssim":["41411879-7224-4dfb-a245-e78290df7371"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Ministry in the sea services: moving from pluralism to a theology of religious ends"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:13:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:04:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b6aaa3fa-196f-4459-b0c8-5e944fd2a48f"],"hasLease_ssim":["07a21e74-845b-4888-b85e-ff0760773e3d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis A Parks"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. In researching the multi-denominational impact, which determines the influence that each denomination represented in the military has on leadership, position placement and stability within the Chaplaincy, it was discovered that the impact of Christian chaplains had various pros and cons that were not considered in the onset of this project. The initial research methodology, proactive, consisted of questionnaires and telephonic interviews. Further research revealed the need to have verbatim input from troops and feedback from lay personnel in the deployed field. This proved invaluable in assessing multi-denominational impact among military Christians. The research process reflected the need to have global training programs/seminars that foster unity in a pluralistic environment within the United States Air Force Chaplaincy."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720736413188096,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:10:43.021Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:56:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:54:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"05a406c6-130d-4811-821e-e3d49b792d2c","accessControl_ssim":["f3b5a9a0-62f6-4f3b-92ed-917542940935"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Suffering unto life: experiences of loss as resources for ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:56:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:16:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["31d14465-2bd3-4912-b0e5-b173847a4f10"],"hasLease_ssim":["39eea534-542c-4c76-b3a4-053ebe13d4d0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Bruce C Birch"],"year_tesim":["1996"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. A survey United States Army chaplains currently stationed in the Republic of South Korea indicates that a majority of these chaplains are survivors of profound loss during childhood. Of these chaplains, 36.3 percent reported an alcoholic parent and 68.7 percent reported an experience of loss due to alcohol that had positvie impact on their professional identity. Biblical theology and social-science data form the context in which loss can be integrated.
