A lack of space limits the number of student seats available, while tuition costs restrict access to families able to afford sky-high rates. Meanwhile, childcare teachers are paid low salaries for their services, and children living in poverty fall farther and farther behind. Such a challenge threatens not only a child’s livelihood, but also the congregation’s vision “that all may know God’s love.” This project will examine how the principles of adaptive leadership might reframe the congregation’s missiological understanding and practices via the work of education. Elementary schools involved in this project were The Bailey School in the Longview Independent School District as well as Birch Elementary and Parkway Elementary, both in the Pine Tree Independent School District. Utilizing the Community Assessment project model, the director undertook an assessment of the demographic data and community needs related to families with elementary students in Longview to establish the project’s foundation. Next, the director determined local resources available to meet identified needs of these Longview families with elementary students. At that juncture, the director explored and investigated regional models and methods of community needs-based ministry to families with elementary students to determine best practices. Finally, the intended results from this project were the identification and presentation of specific recommendations to the Church Coordination Council of First Baptist Church, Longview, by a Strategic Leadership Team, for the development of a community-needs ministry to selected elementary students and their families in Longview."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716166084591616,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:58:04.416Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:00:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:50:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"18a3eefb-36ac-4bd5-8ca9-4f37d00cca47","accessControl_ssim":["1e095c9e-e9ef-45b6-95d6-6b0737b80f7c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Cultivating A Culture Of Orphan Care At Longview Point Baptist Church In Hernando, Mississippi"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:00:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:51:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["31acfec0-de12-4f5d-a9a0-4224135c0d96"],"hasLease_ssim":["c7d93664-5ec6-4f5a-9bf4-9734dccb8aa7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Deron J Biles Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Mississippi"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The project coordinator argues that as the congregation has a greater understanding of the theology of adoption, the love of Christ for the fatherless, his commands for his people to care for the fatherless, and the great need for orphan care, that more people will be involved in orphan care at all levels of engagement. Chapter 1 lays the theological foundation for the project, an overview of the project, and its goals. Chapter 2 delves into the project’s specifics at Longview Point Baptist Church in Hernando, Mississippi. Chapter 3 details the rest of the sessions and how the project coordinator challenged the participants to further action. Chapter 4 evaluates the effectiveness of the project and how the church will continue to encourage and equip members to be involved in orphan care. This is personal and communal struggle, made possible by the unfolding miracle of language, regulated by Scripture, and served by the preaching ministry of transformative leaders.Chapter 1 presents Christian life as an open system, oriented toward transformation. Chapter 2 examines paradigm change in theology and presents preaching as a hermeneutical act in which the believing Assembly seeks historical consciousness by reappropriating tradition in the light of a new paradigm. Chapter 3 compares a methodological shift toward historical consciousness and personal responsibility in Roman Catholic social teaching to a more classical emphasis on law in catholic sexual teaching. Catholics approach the preaching act searching for meaning in this incoherent experience of differing methodologies and paradigms.Chapter 4 studies language as an agent of paradigm change, first by setting preaching in the context of oral, written, and electronic culture. Chapter 5 integrates discussion of the ideas of this paper by ten preachers and reflects on the preaching act as an act of choral listening, the importance of the self-definition of the preacher, and the implications of differing paradigms of authority for Christian life and preaching. Chapter 6 concludes the paper by exploring the gifts of insight and imagination by which Christians, in an act of conversion, turn toward God in the sacrament of preaching."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/1577"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135593624764416,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:53:32.840Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:31:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:25:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"525d6d1d-1eb2-45da-8c9a-a05558d2d109","accessControl_ssim":["0c19616a-3a67-4c58-9c49-33d7eb4e67e3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preparing The Soil For Preaching Catholic Social Teaching Through Empathetic Narrative"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:31:51Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:32:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["add78e1c-f3d0-4b51-9886-956c248eb6c4"],"hasLease_ssim":["a984853a-816f-4e0c-b113-26f95c9db6bf"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Preaching"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Nathan Chase Ph.D.","Sara Fairbanks O.P. The study was conducted with seventy-four volunteers and six permanent deacons in the Diocese of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The study used a combination of quantitative and qualitative surveys and interviews. The hypothesis explored was whether or not the use of narrative techniques, specifically Narrative 4 story exchange would be useful as a technique for preparing congregations to be open to the challenges presented by Catholic social teaching. Additionally, the research sought to determine whether or not the six deacons who participated in the study would find narrative a useful technique in their preaching and evangelization efforts.Participants completed an empathy profile before viewing one of seven different videos produced by the United States Conference of Bishops on the Life and Dignity of the Human Person; the Call to Family, Community, and Participation; the Option for the Poor and Vulnerable; Rights and Responsibilities; Solidarity; Care for God’s Creation; and the Dignity of Work. Participants were asked to rate the videos and indicate how often they heard preaching of the subject matter of the videos. Participants were also given the opportunity to participate in a Narrative 4 story exchange. Participants were then asked to complete the Interpersonal Reactivity Index a second time to see if there was a statistically significant change in their empathy profile. In addition, participants were asked to evaluate their experience with the story exchange. While there was no significant statistical change, as measured by the Interpersonal Reactivity Index, the interviewees demonstrated a high level of approval for the story exchange as a vehicle for improving the empathetic response of a congregation and as a useful technique for use in the preaching of Catholic social teaching."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130070865149952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:45.927Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
