Baltimore Conference"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Lay speaking has a long heritage.  This project briefly recounts the history of that lay involvement in American Methodism.  It further provides a synopsis of the evolution of the lay speaking program in general and in the Baltimore North District in particular.  The first chapter concludes with the principles of religious education undergirding the newly-designed lay speaking classes. Those courses are described in chapters II and III. Chapter IV reports on the programs offered in the other districts. The thesis also refutes theological and biblical justifications for racism and suggests methods of addressing the issue today. The project was a six-week presentation shared with selected members of an all-white church and an all-black church who studied the material researched for the thesis.
