Included herein is a brief introduction to the history of the denomination which had its beginning in the foothills of the Tennessee mountains. Also, because of its import to the work, there is a chronology of Black involvement in the Church of God present-day leadership.  He addresses the need for adequate record of African participation in the denomination.  He bases this need on the results of surveys conducted among the church's Black membership. The Army is a subculture of eclectic American society.  However, the soldier and family member face unique opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges.  This book of meditations incorporates, through blending biblical research and military experience, Army philosophy and terminology with Christian principles.  Their merger resulted in a compilation of meditations. Each meditation includes a prayer, Scripture, military quotation, spiritual devotional, hymn, and single sentence suggestion on many high-interest subjects. Churches that were declining appeared to have similar program and ministry dynamics. Likewise, churches that were growing numerically seemed to share administrative and programmatic traits. Desiring to maintain a balance between the church's call to evangelism and its need to nurture and care for its members, the author established a model of consultation that would assist congregations to consider what their call to ministry might be at that time in history.  This project-thesis is the test of the effectiveness of the model.  Results have been very positive.  The information about the nature of Christian ministry and the permission given to churches to choose their course of ministry appear to be strengths of the model. The project implements and evaluates religious drama as a viable proclamation tool addressing an important congregational issue.  This thesis examines the issue of suffering using the book of Job.  It establishes a biblical and theological understanding of suffering and addresses the issue through an original drama, sermon and Bible study. Evaluation consists of questionnaires and interviews of drama participants, Bible study members and congregation. The leader used the socratic (open-ended questioning) method to enable participants to expand their awareness of the power of Scripture in their personal lives. A process was provided for daily prayer and meditation between sessions.  Sessions included meditation, writing in a journal, responding to questions, dialogue in small groups and becoming biblical characters.  Most participants found the model helpful in deepening their awareness of and relationship with others, including God. The method of study was to utilize a questionnaire sent to all clergypersons under appointment in the Baltimore Annual Conference who had served a previous appointment, collate findings with literature on transitions, and do interviews and case studies. This thesis has been tested by combining historical/exegetical investigation of the Thessalonian correspondence with a course in which believers sought meaningful interaction with the Lord of whom the letters speak.
