This project critically assesses the effectiveness of the current process of preparing both congregations and pastors for cross-cultural/cross-racial appointments in Iowa. Planning an interactive day for members and explorers of the grail -- a spiritual movement based in Loveland, OH, this researcher included holistic methods as a means for sharing the story of the grail. Seventeen members/explorers attended the day-long retreat 'Eternal compositions: spiritual autobiography and the women of the grail' and engaged in creative modalities recounting the stories of the grail. By utilizing research and statistics, the writer sought to determine what the African American houses of worship are doing or not doing and what is needed going forward to help eradicate HIV/AIDS. What the writer discovered as a result of research, interviews, and workshops was that some of the clergy in the city and across the state of New Jersey were willing to start an HIV/AIDS ministry in their churches. The writer also documented the fact that there were those among the clergy willing to have someone come to their church once a quarter to speak on HIV/AIDS. Others were willing to put HIV/AIDS facts in their Sunday morning bulletins... Other pastors committed to providing pastoral care and counseling to those who were infected and affected.
