It documents an action in ministry consisting of a series of ten experimental sermons which were intended to be therapeutic for listeners.  These sermons began with the ten 'irrational beliefs' from Albert Ellis' rational-emotive therapy, and reframed common psychological problems in terms of the Christian gospel. It was discovered that the friendship and intergenerational relationships within the church which they experienced in childhood and adolescence contributed significantly to the generation and development of their faith, second only to the impact of their parents and family life. An awareness of the dimensions and possibilities for personal meaning, along with a preparation for the use of new hymn images, is explored in a series of congregational workshops.  A phenomenological approach is applied to this qualitative research project. The practice of ministry in a congregation made up of people of a variety of ethnic origins will encounter problems resulting from ethnic and cultural differences.  In order for the congregation to be integrated into a working and worshipping whole, these differences must be identified and appreciated.  In-depth interviews of eight family units chosen from the traditional congregation and recent-comers from Guyana were conducted, followed by three group meetings.  Transcripts were analysed, and the findings compared with the experience of similar congregations. The content of their meetings is outlined, and several assessments of the project are given. The candidate reflects on the project one year after its completion, and suggests a revised model.  It is concluded that Christian realization through families is a valid model for growth and learning in a congregation. 'Centering prayer' is a way of praying that encourages one to take a practical step to silently encounter God's presence at the centre of one's being. The original this of this project explored the use of centering prayer as a viable tool to enhance the devotional life of Korean Protestant Christian immigrants in Canada participating in this action-in-ministry. A proactive research method was used in this study. The conclusion of the project is that centering prayer is an effective tool to enhance devotional life.
