Through a review of the literature and interviews with those touched by adoption, I have discovered that the reality for many is pain and suffering. Using a prism of family systems theory, I conclude that the dysfunctional adopted family is engaged in an attempt to deny its adoptive status.  The consequence is that the family ends up mired in guilt, shame, fear, and unresolved grief, and needs to be touched by God's healing grace."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133338685145088,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:17:42.363Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":3,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Harold Hyung Park","hits":2,"label":"Harold Hyung Park"},{"value":"Richard A Hughes","hits":1,"label":"Richard A Hughes"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Family systems theory","hits":1,"label":"Family systems theory"},{"value":"Openness","hits":1,"label":"Openness"},{"value":"Relation (Theology)","hits":1,"label":"Relation (Theology)"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Adoptive parents","hits":3,"label":"Adoptive parents"},{"value":"Resilience (Personality trait)","hits":2,"label":"Resilience (Personality trait)"},{"value":"Adjustment (Psychology)","hits":1,"label":"Adjustment (Psychology)"},{"value":"Adoption","hits":1,"label":"Adoption"},{"value":"Belonging (Social psychology)","hits":1,"label":"Belonging (Social psychology)"},{"value":"Birthparents","hits":1,"label":"Birthparents"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":3,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Denver Seminary","hits":2,"label":"Denver Seminary"},{"value":"Andover Newton Theological School","hits":1,"label":"Andover Newton Theological School"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":3,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"2018","hits":2,"label":"2018"},{"value":"1990","hits":1,"label":"1990"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Denver Seminary","hits":2,"label":"Denver Seminary"},{"value":"Andover Newton Theological School","hits":1,"label":"Andover Newton Theological School"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":3,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Denver Seminary","hits":2,"label":"Denver Seminary"},{"value":"Andover Newton Theological School","hits":1,"label":"Andover Newton Theological School"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":3,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":3,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
