The discussion subjects are introduced through the use of hands-outs that outline the classical main-line theological positions that have been held by the major Christian theologians over the past two thousand years. The students choose the position closest to their own from the views offered. No pre-reading is required and no text books are utilized. The thesis lays the exegetical foundation for a description of pastoral competencies, introduces non-traditional theological education, explores its history in America and its use in the missionary setting, and relates it to adult learning theories. An andragogical section follows which presents practical uses of the material.  Some positive results are obtained.  However, retention of the material could be enhanced if more time were devoted to the androgogical
