Using comparative theology method and ethnography, traditional Hmong culture and Roman Catholic dialogues within cosmology, anthropology, rituals, symbols, and culture calues to find connections, disconnections and lacunae within the Roman Catholic tradition, allowing for an expanded understanding withing Catholic theology and worship. This project focuses on selected church members and the role of the memorial service as the substitute for the ancestral sacrifice. The history and form of ancestral sacrifice is explored and prayerful remembrance is studied in regard to the memorial service. The results indicated that the topic doesn't get dealt with enough in many congregations, that parishioners are generally unhappy with the church's handling of the matter and that when the church does deal with it, it is greatly appreciated in the pews. Even though the Bible does not directly address the question of the ancestor practices, the Scriptures do give guidance to the church of Jesus Christ in dealing with the problems associated with these rites.  The author exegetes passages in the Bible which are relevant to the subject of the ancestor practices and from his exegesis constructs a theology which speaks to major issues faced by Chinese Christians today. The project searched and analyzed the problem of ancestral worship through a questionnaire which was addressed to the ministers in rural, urban, and metropolitan areas.
