Chapter one identifies the challenges of facing preaching today and suggests a paradigm modeled by the prophet Ezekiel. Chapter two provides an historical perspective of Christendom with a review of the relevant literature. Chapter three establishes this theological paradigm for preaching based on five units from the book of Ezekiel. Chapter four contains the outline of the seminar Standing in the gap: preaching in a post-Christendom culture. The author interviewed respected experts in the area of biblical eschatology regarding their understanding of the passage, where the war fits in connection with other end times events, their understanding of current world events that may indicate the possible soon fulfillment of the prophecy, and how their thoughts had influenced their ministry practices. It was designed to explore the concept of self-identity in two separate small group settings: the Reform Jewish community in Sioux Falls, S.D., and the Palestinian Christian community.  Miroslav Volf's research on reconciliation supported the exploration of self-identity as a foundation in the journey towards reconciliation.  Salvation Oracles in Ezekiel were utilized to facilitate discussion of the relationship between identity and land.
