In addition to the training for church eldership, it includes training for sharing the faith community's perspective in the public square. This project seeks to answer the question, 'If the church is going to participate in public dialogue in the public square, who do we send?' It is the author's view that those who the Apostle Paul describes in I Timothy 3:1-7 are the people most suited for this work. In our increasingly secular age, people of faith must be encouraged that they not only have a Biblical mandate to express their witness in the public square as Jesus calls them to be 'salt and light' in the world, but that there is also plenty of precedent in American history. Yet, women's education in spiritual and biblical matters ought to be taught in the church to equip them for the Great Commission mandate. This thesis-project explores the effectiveness of an existing spiritual education curriculum in the form of a mentoring program for college women. The evaluator uses the positions of women's epistemological development proposed by Belenky and her colleagues as a basis for evaluation. The author also discusses various women of the Bible as they relate to the mentoring program and one's understanding of how the program ought to be restructured. The six-session program (including group instruction and discussion, a six-part fable, and reflection questions) was based upon leadership behaviors described in First Timothy. Eight pastoral staff participated in the three-month program and were pretested and posttested using both quantitative and qualitative measurements. The results were statistically insignificant with regard to behavioral change. A preaching series and small group discussions generated insgihts into the strengths and weaknesses of the particular church.  Group evaluations were shared with the governing board of the church.  Suggestions for possible implementation were communicated to various boards, staff, and teams.  Goals and objectives were set in accordance with these conclusions.
