As a result, researchers have identitifed compassion fatigue as a problematic side-effect of caring for patients with significant emotional and physical distress. Without purposeful intervention, compassion fatigue can lead to more serious conditions such as secondary stress syndrome or burnout. This study explored root causes of exposure to suffering, futility, detachment from patients, and leadership influence. To mitigate the effects of compassion fatigue, the researcher provided a holistic self-care program among emergency department nurses (N=10) at a community-centered hospital. The small group leaders who have served for over 4 years have experienced fatigues and burnouts.  Prior to this project, the church did not have a process to help recovering fatigued leaders.  In response to this specific need, the candidate developed and implemented a training program that included lecture, mentoring, practice of various spiritual disciplines, sharing of experiences, and positive encouragement and feedback from peers to help the small group leaders to recover from fatigues and burnouts.  This program prepared the leaders to serve the Lord with renewed strength and spiritual vigor. In the course of 3 months, participants and the candidate learned skills and attitudes to spirituality stay fresh and strong by seeking intimacy with the Lord through exercising various spiritual disciplines. This project focuses on executive coaching for pastors at risk of becoming 'stuck,' losing energy of momentum in congregational ministry. This report explores executive coaching theory, considering how working with a coach can help a pastor out of a rut and thus regain energy for ministry. The problem in question was to determine the reasons why clergy face burnout within their context of ministry. The workshop included teaching clergy and lay the definition of crisis, types of crisis, and discussed methods of healing, to include pastoral presence. A mixed methodology of qualitative and quantitative surveys was used to conduct and analyze responses from participants cross-sectionally and longitudinally. Without sufficient care of self, therapists risk burn out, empathy overload, and an inability to continue in the profession. A particular problem exists for marriage and family therapy interns balancing academic studies, clinical practice and personal lives. This project explores intern therapist engagement in creative activities as a form of self-care and stress reduction. While self-report scales reflect the benefit of creative activities for self-care, more study is needed. However, very little research has been done on how these experiences impact the spouse. The focus of this research project is on the impact on the pastor's wife. This dissertation examines five case studies of wives of wounded pastors whose husbands have experienced conflict at their church resulting in them leaving their church. I have provided a narrative of each wife's situation as told by the wife. The narratives provide the context and thus provide clearer insights into the impact of their experiences.     To help us understand the impact, we examined the challenges pastors and wives face while in the ministry context as compared to after they were forced to leave. The pastor's wife's voice has been a missing piece in our strategies in preparing pastors for ministry. This project distills her insights, along with those of pastors and church leaders and gives us a more comprehensive understanding of the challenges pastors and their wives face.     This study includes tangible strategies to better equip pastors and their spouses to deal with the challenges of ministry. It provides information that can be used to develop ministries that support and encourage pastors and their wives when they encounter conflicts, are wounded and forced to exit from their church.     These strategies will include ways churches, denominations, seminaries and new ministries can implement these
