A new liturgical season, with elements of worship, music, art, education and special events, was instituted from Feast Day of St. Francis (October 4) until Advent with the theme of God's inclusive care for all. Creation season provides a sense of how ecology can serve as a guiding motif and broad context for dealing with postmodern issues. The spiritual development of individual members of a rural Presbyterian congregation and the spiritual enrichment of the community of faith at large, as observed by the pastor, is explored utilizing the heuristic model of an apple orchard. The comparison of the nurture of trees and enrichment of individuals and congregation employs the praxis circle of practical theology as delineated by James Poling and Donald Miller. In doing so the praxis circle begins with the experience of the individuals, describes and evaluates the two opposing theologies within the congregation, seeks to find correlation of creation-centered theology and Reformed theology in secular disciplines, ecclesiastical mandates, and denominational documents, which gives rise to new guidelines and practices for the faith community and its members. It is affirmed that the heuristic model of an apple orchard is helpful to describe spiritual development."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126105621528576,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:22:44.376Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:45:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:47:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1e1b9fb0-9554-41e9-8149-7965cf8b43d4","accessControl_ssim":["998cfdd2-1529-42fd-968b-e128c5ce445c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Proclaiming the creation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:45:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:01:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["95a5de9a-3461-44df-8a9f-13617747ce43"],"hasLease_ssim":["647d7a72-e442-4352-8ae6-75b195aaee7c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Vanderbilt University"],"advisor_tesim":["David G Buttrick"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David B Kidd"],"keyword_tesim":["God--Creator"],"publisher_tesim":["Vanderbilt University Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Expository preaching","Creation","Tillich, Paul, 1886-1965","Barth, Karl, 1886-1968","Religion and science","Cobb, John B, Jr","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This work is designed to help the preacher proclaim God as creator even as he or she finds inspiration in science.
