Many people have been seeking the Christian faith after obtaining religious freedom.  In today's China, thousands of people receive baptism without proper instruction about Church teaching and practice.  As a result, only a small number remain faithful to their baptismal commitment.  In considering today's new situation, I conducted interviews with catechists who have had experience working on this program in the diocese.  I think the Catholic Church in China faces two critical issues: 1) inadequate preparation for those who wish to be baptized, and 2) inadequate ongoing faith formation and communal support for those who have been baptized... The final document examines each element of the four major phases of the Catholic initiatory process by considering academic-year scheduling constraints and its effects on students, and by describing needs of student-aged persons seeking membership in the Catholic Church, and provides a flexible methodology for implementing the first phase, the period of inquiry, in a university setting. To make the rite meaningful and relevant to the culture of the Hmong the writer used the process of inculturation.  Research on the meaning and method of inculturation helped the writer to discover how to apply it in the case of the Hmong people.  The writer also researched Hmong history through extensive reading, personal interviews of Hmong leaders at Holy Family Parish and participation in their religious and social activities. The evolution demonstrates a marked shift in meaning from the experience of the Apostles to the use of the terms in today's context.  The shifts are positive because they once again call the laity and the church community to mission and evangelization.  This project focuses especially on the role of the RCIA sponsor. Sponsors serve as examples of lay persons recognizing the call to mission and evangelization.  They are a group in need of formation in mission and evangelization.  The educational design for RCIA sponsors focuses on the role of the lay person and the community in mission and evangelization, and also provides an opportunity for the sponsors to experience the tie between their actions on behalf of the candidates as well as the action of the community. It uses the liturgical rites of the Lenten phase of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). They lead him or her to carry out works of justice.
