Using the anthropological and cultural methodology of ethnography, particularly participant observation, the researcher discovered how the nuns preach. Through interviews with the nuns of three monasteries and the laity who live near them, the author discovered that the nuns preach by their very existence, through their prayer, and in their liturgies. This was a qualitative study using a stratified sample of six Sisters who had been sexually abused as children and had engaged in some form of pastoral counseling regarding this issue.  The results indicated that the convent was not always a safe place, that pastoral counselors have not always addressed the issue of sexual abuse, and that most of the participants have used the process of pastoral psychotherapy to recommit to religious life. The subjects are well-functioning middle-aged persons.  They narrate their entire journey of conversion.  Throughout the case studies, the holistic theory of Lewis Rambo and the normative theories of Donald Gelpi and Walter Conn are used to analyze the process of initial and ongoing conversion.
