But the Central Kerala Diocese (the author's own diocese) has not yet ordained women. In this study the author argues that there are biblical bases for the equality of men and women and theological bases for the ordination of women. God created male and female in God's own image and they are made to be equal partners in caring for the creation as God's representatives (Gen 1:26-27). Jesus Christ, who treated women and men as equals, stands independent of culture in relation to women. Woman is heir to the same salvation with man: together they are joint heirs of the grace of life (1 Peter 3:7). In the early church women exercised roles and functions which were later associated with priestly ministry. The author argues that there are practical reasons for ordaining women in the Central Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India. In this diocese the full-time women workers, Sisters of the Church, and pastors' wives are doing pastoral work. The diocese whole-heartedly accepts their work. Therefore, the argument is women should be included in ordained ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133289269952512,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:16:55.237Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:48:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:56:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"abf84e39-bffc-4f35-84e6-8e57d6baa409","accessControl_ssim":["874b8b87-a7e6-4357-b08a-6a55ad10df15"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A study of EFCA attitudes toward women in ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:48:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:06:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1728a923-a5c3-4c9e-b97a-35aea54388d9"],"hasLease_ssim":["7a1b974f-f6fc-46dd-b5fa-68565ece93ac"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Catherine Clark Kroeger"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert C Williams"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelical Free Church of America","Ordination of women"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Study of Evangelical Free Church of America attitudes toward women in ministry"],"abstract_tesim":["The Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) does not ordain women for pastoral ministry under present rules and regulations. This policy was made clear after discussions in the mid-1980's. A prohibition against the ordination of women for such ministry, however, has not always been the policy of Free Church associations throughout the history of the movement. This study begins with a review of the history of women in pastoral ministry in Free Church associations. After an examination of history, and a brief look at pertinent biblical passages, attention is directed to the current 'traditionalist/complementarian' versus 'egalitarian' debate. Particular emphasis is given to a review of major contributions by EFCA scholars. The last chapter examines the opinions of EFCA pastors and lay leaders on the issue of women in ministry and especially the present EFCA policy related to it. The opinions were obtained through responses to a survey mailed to one third of the EFCA churches in the United States. Major findings in the study are: a) EFCA leaders overwhelmingly reject the concept of women being ordained to pastoral ministry; b) many seem to have become emotionally involved in the debate."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell
