The author used a qualitative research method for gathering data. Personal interviews from pastors faced with this dilemma, plus questionnaires and interviews from his family, churches and communities, where he pastored with his disabled wife, played a significant role in his research. As well, an archival research into the effects and challenges facing caregivers and their families added to his insights. I will study my own preaching, as well as traditional preaching within the Church of Sweden and a few examples from American homiletics. Using liberation theology, new homiletic theories and autobiography, this paper will explore some of the complexities of preacher formation.
