As interviews from hospital chaplains converse with recent research on negative faith coping, and with St. Thérèse of Lisieux's experience of pulmonary tuberculosis and a trial of faith during her last eighteen months, chronicled in Story of a Soul, twelve themes emerge. Focusing on the writings of Thérèse, her autobiography, The story of a soul, letters, and poems this work examines her impact on church history and her leadership as a woman, using historical study as the methodology.
