The project director set two primary ministry goals for this project. The first goal was to research the fields of youth ministry and family ministry and how they relate to each other. Understanding the relationship between youth ministry and family ministry lays a foundation fro how best to train future youth leaders to minister to youth through their families. As a college course, The Theology of Discernment introduced students to the manner in which individuals from Scripture and Christian Tradition discovered God's desires for them. These models of discernment were adapted by students to create Personal Discernment Models for vocational discernment and to answer critical, ultimate life questions. These four areas are: his relationship to God, his family, his congregation, and his community.  Several interviews with pastors of various churches, specific case histories, and historical data, publications, biographies, sermons, provided the substance of the research.  Additional content was provided from the author's experiences of 18 years as a counselor, church planter, and pastoral training director.  The research concludes that these areas need to be part of the curriculum in Bible colleges and seminaries where men are trained for professional ministry.
