The second chapter focuses on Biblical and theological perspectives.  The issues of patriarchy, child care options for newborns, and the church's involvement are discussed.  The thesis: clergy have more flexible daytime schedules, making it possible for caring for their infants during the day.  The project details clergy experience and summarizes non-random purposive sampling of other clergy to determine their infant care solutions. In 1986 the school needed to be reorganized because it lacked clear goals and a well-defined action plan for accomplishing those goals.  Also, materials used were insufficient for training members.  The implementation of this project demands a sound theological foundation which included an adequate view of scripture, ministry, and the role of the local church as seen in the Assemblies of God.  The biblical and historical role of the laity is discussed in order to provide an adequate basis for implementing a school of lay ministry. It uncovers a spiritual fellowship which ministers to afflicted people. The Christian church and Alcoholics Anonymous are parallel rehabilitative  and regenerative agencies for helping hurting people.  They each can become more effective through building bridges which combine their spiritual resources in a local congregational setting. The process, designed for both the remarrying couple and their custodial and non-custodial children, requires a pastor as well as a lay counselor who works primarily with children. This dissertation describes the dramatic upheaval occurring in a church whose history and identity have been imbedded in a rural community since pre-Civil War days.  Such upheaval and transition demand a process of reorientation that identifies vital elements for reconstructing an appropriate Christian ministry among a community in such seismic flux.
