A theology of pastoral care is provided. A design for a reproducible program of general visitation by persons in a congregation is given.  Forms are provided for assessing one's spiritual condition.  Growth in visitation skills is measured by a pre- and post-test given to each visitor. Spiritual growth of the visitors is assessed. The thesis is that evangelization is sharing good news at a point of relevant need.  Thus, a caring deed is as much a witness as a spoken word.  However, the thesis also argues that people need to hear the invitation of Jesus to be his followers.  When the good news is proclaimed, it was emphasized that the actions of the messenger should accord with the message. The thesis states that training a core of disciplers can lead to a renewed laity that will train others in discipleship.  The strategy consists of devising a discipleship model based on Ephesians 4:11-16.  Eight participants were trained in theology, church growth, leadership skills, and group dynamics.  They were exposed to the four dimensions of church growth.  Evidence indicated that the group was renewed and grew collectively in all four areas but not individually. The research involved a Likert-type questionnaire, open-ended comments and personal interviews (39) completed by a combined total of 204 persons, 60 pastors and 144 lay persons.  The study demonstrates that the pastoral relations committees are an effective means of support and feedback for ministry and serve, secondarily, but helpfully, in the area of personnel matters.  The pastoral relations committees theological framework relies heavily upon 'unconditional acceptance'.  The author recommends further theological development focused on the stewardship of gifts. Statistical studies revealed that the suicide rate, for the past five years, has been 2.8 times the state average.  A program module was designed to raise the level of awareness, of the danger signs of suicide, in those serving in positions of leadership in the Indiana National Guard.  The research includes a study of the context of ministry, psycho-social and biblical-theological aspects of suicide.
