The model is worship, spirit and mission. Any church must offer its worshipers a quality worship experience, i.e., clear readings of the Word with understandable and inspired proclamation. Worship must be conducted in a manner that the presence of God will be felt by the worshipers. Then the people must be sent to do God's work. Re-visiting Biblical texts from Genesis, Job and the Epistles, the author addresses themes including the goodness of God's creation, our relationship with the land, early Hebraic understandings of ecology, salvation of non-human entities, and, of course, the Biblical imperative to love our neighbor. This exegetical probe of the Bible concludes that our new neighbor, lying battered beside the road to Jericho, is the earth. The author draws on several scholars to evaluate the ethics of loving the earth, concluding that eco-spirituality invites believers to expand their reverence, respect, and love for each other and God to include God's creation--to value the earth as God values it. The author discusses mentors from the past who have blended their love of God with their love of the earth and provides two group exercises in eco-spirituality as teaching models for Christian educators."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135129016467456,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:46:09.756Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:31:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:29:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"06755251-985b-4c59-8f05-2e09adeec480","accessControl_ssim":["f20702ca-a1a2-4ce0-8eab-8ac902b97590"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Elements of regeneration in the rural and small town Christendom Church of the United Church of Canada"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:31:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:18:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["16199c11-f790-4a1d-aaa3-5231a7d79bdb"],"hasLease_ssim":["2ee890e4-afdf-4f10-bf70-89f63751d742"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dale R Stoffer"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul A Gilroy"],"publisher_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["United Church of Canada","Church growth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author interviewed and surveyed lay and ordered leaders of rural and small town churches to study their attitudes about the nature, role and character of their church. The author researched motivational principles in psychology, education, the Bible, and the writings of Ellen G. White. He taught these principles in a six-hour seminar, had participants deliver sermons using seminar principles, and evaluated the effectiveness of the principles. Research suggested that addressing personal needs enhances motivation. Three principal factors affect intrinsic motivation: self-esteem, participation, and most importantly the gospel. Principles of adult learning, learning style theory, and the 4MAT system of learning potentially enhance motivation. College chaplains seek to understand these students and their faith and help students nourish their faith. College chaplains often assume, and perhaps rightfully so, that students want to participate in Bible studies, worship and reflection groups, and service projects. Yet, sometimes both students and chaplains are unsure of what faith is and how it can be nourished. This project seeks to help college chaplains serving small, private, liberal arts, church-related colleges in answering these questions. Chapter 1, 'Faith and Faith Development,' offers a definition of faith, discusses faith development and nourishment. Chapter 2, 'The Action/Reflection Group,' reports on a small group of students who gathered to discuss faith. Chapter 3, 'A Chaplain's Response,' interprets the findings of this group and relates them to the faith development model used in Chapter 1. The research design was to have a one day retreat during which a pre-test was administered to discover preferred leadership styles by laity and to determine whether or not those participating had a regular practice of spiritual disciplines; to conduct six two hour classes on the subject of leadership within the Church of Jesus Christ; to have a second one day retreat to summarize learnings during the course of study; to administer a post-test approximately one month after the second retreat."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["beb93775-0b27-4cc6-9fb0-f2ad62e68517"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131502183972865,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:48:30.939Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:31:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:16:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1e991e1c-2549-4b40-ba86-dcc433b9a32f","accessControl_ssim":["349f9552-c8aa-47c9-bbce-9258afd66ddd"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'Open endings and new beginnings': the role of imagination in preaching at Charleswood United Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:31:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:02:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["76117530-739e-4796-b8e6-89d1c5f927bb"],"hasLease_ssim":["085a0b96-8b8a-405a-9218-72928865a478"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paris Donehoo"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael I Wilson"],"publisher_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Charleswood United Church (Winnipeg)","Imagination","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Imagination is a central component in engaging sermons.
