The pastors of ten churches, chiefly Anglo, 300-400 in attendance, and not in an institutional setting were surveyed. Ten churches with less than 220 in attendance were also surveyed. These were compared looking for features that would make a difference. The crucial differences between the two groups were in the areas of pastoral leadership, clarity of vision, staffing for growth, relational evangelism, contemporary worship styles, and vital small groups. These findings were applied to the Northwest Houston Seventh-day Adventist Church. The results were that it grew through the 200 barrier. If an Adventist church wishes to move through the 200 barrier, it must become a different kind of organization. Prayerful pastoral leadership is vital. Clear visison is critical. It must staff itself for growth. Evangelism should be more relational. Worship styles will tend to be more contemporary. The definition of small groups must be widened."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135312301260800,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:49:04.550Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:12:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:41:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d9626e24-eed7-4075-88b2-b707d774154d","accessControl_ssim":["6bb79547-394b-494e-9560-e5e2727a27f1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing, implementing and evaluating congregational worship renewal in five selected congregations of the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:11:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:20:54Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["23404992-de54-4681-8aae-bef7bd4fb1c4"],"hasLease_ssim":["5cea20a4-2a82-4e86-a2e1-22eb0fb2fe00"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy P Weber"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kenneth R Pyne"],"publisher_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Worship--Study and teaching","General Association of Regular Baptist Churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this thesis project is to develop, implement and evaluate congregational worship renewal in five selected congregations affiliated with the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches. The project explored this thesis by initiating a congregational study focusing on one parish. The research included observations, on-site visits and interviews. A literature review on Celtic spirituality, feminist theology and organizational leadership was completed. Integrative analysis was done and foundational values and components for future leadership models were proposed. Transformational leadership, spiritual renewal, and communication of vision are essential to success in implementing new models of parish leadership. A congregational study was initiated, focusing on one parish as a revealing text. The research included on-site visits and interviews. The wisdom gleaned from the congregational study was then women with a review of literature on Celtic spirituality, feminist theology and organizational leadership. An integrative analysis of the combined research was done; foundational values and components for future leadership models were proposed. The research surfaced many important findings and conclusions. Among these are: 1) they key to leadership is relationship and not skill development, structure or power; 2) in opposition to dualistic, hierarchical world-views, feminist theology and Celtic spirituality stress interconnectedness and inclusivity which are fundamental to the development of future leadership models; 3) both hierarchical and charismatic elements of the Catholic Church must be honored and balanced; 4) intentional processes are needed to enable the transition from hierarchical models of leadership to more inclusive ones, especially processes for and integrating feminist and Celtic values and; 5) the church needs to give priority to including the wealthy, poor, old and young, as well as persons of many cultures and both genders, in the community's circles of relationship and involvement. The study concludes that several steps and strategies are essential to successfully implementing new models and paradigms of leadership. In particular, transformational leadership, spiritual renewal, and processes to communicate the vision across parishes, deaneries and Archdiocesan entities, are essential for gaining commitment from the faith."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131971335749632,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:55:58.357Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:11:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:36:43Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ae66090b-7896-4c05-8716-bcd42c0fa33d","accessControl_ssim":["1f53497e-c21e-43a2-94e7-566961df42e3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Church planting programs of five similar-sized denominations in the United States"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:11:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:10:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8abb12a9-47a6-4579-bb44-1c264d7a86b1"],"hasLease_ssim":["a8c478cc-2f7d-4d67-982d-82ee07a5730e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ronald K Crandall"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dennis D Powell"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Church finance"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project examined elements of the national missions program in the United States which provide the best opportunity for starting and growing new congregations to be self-supporting within five years.
