It includes a survey study of the current requirements and practices within the major associations of chaplains in the USA regarding training received and assistance offered by these professionals. It provides guidelines about knowledge and skills the chaplains need in order to be effective in assisting those involved in traumatic events. The thesis is that the sermon is the appropriate place to address the topic of suicide and an avenue suited for addressing suicide is in a homiletics course. The researcher demonstrated how lectures on suicide awareness and prevention in a homiletics course can be an effective method of preparing young preachers for the preaching ministry. By means of a critical analysis a proposed procedure for The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana (ELCG) Lutheran Seminary was prepared by the author.  He assessed the current student population and ELCG ordained pastors through means of tracking GPAs, personal interviews, surveys and questionnaires to discover academic and cultural needs in preparing for the pastoral ministry. The major theme running through this portfolio is hearing God, which played key roles in researcher's spiritual formation and was viewed as a crucial factor in the model designed to help the spiritual formation of CICs. The project showed that most participants expressed their experience of hearing God during lectio divina, and some vowed to change their behaviour. Pentecostalism has been seriously penetrating among Lutheran members to the extent that some of them do not value Lutheran Divine Service.  They claim that Lutheran Divine Service is not spiritual because it is guided by the book or written materials and therefore not spiritual.  The study made a survey.  Results proved that many Lutheran members in ELCT did not understand the contents available in the hymnal. Research was conducted on a Lutheran definition of prayer for the Psalms, the use and role of imagination in interpreting the psalms, and on homiletic strategies tailored to the Psalms as prayer.  The research method was to take surveys and observation notes throughout an intensive period of Bible classes and sermons and then again at a later date. As this emphasis on preaching has become increasingly more important, reflected by post-conciliar documents and statements by the popes following the council, the question remains: has the seminary curriculum changed with this emphasis to ensure that the clergy are properly trained for preaching.  This research project reviews the literature of evaluation of preaching over the last three decades along with the changes in requirements for homiletics in the five editions of the Program of Priestly Formation.  The author developed a research tool using Appreciative Inquiry and interviewed homiletics professors at six Roman Catholic theologates in the United States to aggregate the 'best preaching practices' in these homiletics programs.  The aggregated results demonstrate that in fact improvements have been made in the preaching programs. Transformation occurs where our body, mind, and soul converge and this process can be enabled by creativity. I designed and implemented a Christian formational model to support the integration of creativity to spiritual direction via the expressive arts (music, visual, literary, and movement). A qualitative study augmented by cognitive and theopoetic orientations captured participation of spiritual directors in an expressive arts workshop and the field application of these methods. Following the course, each participant agreed to seek opportunities to share their faith narratively outside their congregational context.
