It is concerned with the question of what were the elements that brought about this youth revival and what caused its decline. Then with this information, and given the current state of youth ministry in Boston, what would it take for another city wide youth ministry to happen again? A primary premise of the work is a historic review using a systems thinking approach. Systems analysis provided a view of the interrelated elements of an otherwise complex setting between Modernity and Postmodernity, Urban and Suburban youth, Traditional Boston Churches and the Coming Together Youth led movement. Secondly, this study discusses the various models of congregational life cycles to tell the story in eight stages of the rise and decline of the C2 movement. The primary research project of this work was using the Hexagon technique for developing systems analysis of particular environments. Using this method, this study was able to determine the five principles of the C2. The five principles of Coming Together are: 1. C2 is a movement responding to the dynamic work of the Holy Spirit in youth. 2. C2 is a Christian Youth led movement. 3. C2 utilizes a team approach in sharing, of leadership, vision and resources. 4. C2 seeks to build and celebrate Christ-centered, interracial relationships among urban and suburban youth groups. 5. C2 seeks to provide a supportive network of adult youth leaders. This study then analyzed these principles through the grid of systems thinking and developed a causal loop diagram for further analysis. In this diagram it was discovered how the C2 was a system of reinforcing elements that once placed in motion would become productive. This analysis also demonstrated that the reinforcing aspect for the C2 system could become counter-productive if any change occurred in one of the principles. Next this study analyzed the current state of youth ministry in Boston, what has to happen to bring forth a city-wide youth ministry through systems analysis Hexagon project with current youth ministers in Boston. Through the development of another causal loop diagram of this question, the leverage points for effecting change in the current system of youth work in Boston was determined. This study proposes that the five principles of C2 could still be an effective leverage to bring about city-wide ministry. Although the form of this youth ministry would be different base upon a new generation of youth in a changing context. It was also suggested that these principles are transferable to other settings, although the programmatic outcomes would be different according to the environment. The final outcome of the life cycle study of C2 is found that out of the death of the movement came to the resurrection of a multiplication of new and vibrant youth programs. A key learning from C2 study is best summarized by the words of Jesus when he said, 'I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds,' (John 12:24)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129943077289984,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:44.059Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:03:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:08:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a383dbd6-c5a5-47fa-8c41-994916f132b7","accessControl_ssim":["3c7553d2-423a-425a-b462-f38fcf4c8b93"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Come to me, all you who are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest: Sabbath as renewal practice for new church development pastors"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:03:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:53:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c6575530-8a15-42c8-9b6f-b9ca69c3d0c3"],"hasLease_ssim":["6b3ef327-0803-45d5-a4b4-15d10b790e8a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["H Stanley Wood"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David R Taylor"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Sabbath--Biblical teaching","Burn out (Psychology)","Foothills Presbytery","Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)","Clergy--Mental health"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In many ways, the new church development pastors in Foothills Presbytery of the PC(USA) are serving thriving congregations. Liturgical preaching seeks to use this common language to further the dialogue between God and everyday life in transforming the lives of the faithful and grounding effective, imaginal preaching."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130047359221760,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:23.510Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:03:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:00:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bedc1a59-1bd5-4c9e-84ce-eea15dcc7e31","accessControl_ssim":["3c061752-7c7b-4bb9-a12d-84e7b3b32145"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Aging wineskins in a new wine community: recontextualizing the community of faith for the realities of the community at large"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:03:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:37:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e2218b59-6599-47a5-b980-42f85964a174"],"hasLease_ssim":["f0e40961-f8d6-4b9d-b0af-662d34f04c7c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Bruce Jackson"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Brian H Gearin"],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community"],"publisher_tesim":["Grodon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["First Baptist Church (Everett, Mass)","Social change"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In this thesis the author looks a several strategic variables that explore the demographic and transmigration shifting that has occurred in the community of Everett, Massachusetts. This study also looks at the resulting effects that these changes have had on the community of faith at the First Baptist Church of Everett. In the first chapter a brief history is given for the development of the First Baptist Church of Everett and the community of Everett, Massachusetts. As this history documents, profound ethnic transmigration patterns emerge where the children of the long-time residents of Everett move to suburban locales while at the same time differing ethnic groups begin to take up residence in Everett in greater numbers. In chapter two the theological paradigms of Place, Peace and Prayer are discovered rooted in the analysis of the book of Nehemiah. These theological paradigms are then operationalized in the context of the First Baptist Church of Everett interacting with the community now in Everett. Chapter three is a literature review of the precedent literature that looks at the issues of cross-cultural ministry, church growth analysis, sociological research and leadership development. Chapter four analyzes the church systems that previously had operated in the First Baptist Church of Everett. The present system in place at the church is also analyzed with the addition of the challenges facing the congregation as they grapple with the change brought about by the demographic shifting of the community. Additionally, key leverage points are identified in the church system that are utilized to counterbalance the issues of leadership and philosophical disconnect between the church and the community. Chapter five details the implementation process of the two key variables to the church system and the resulting outcomes of these interventions for the recontextualization of the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132235593678848,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:00:10.373Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:03:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:06:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8dd93013-4031-4c5f-8328-81deaf6ab0d9","accessControl_ssim":["7adb972c-eed3-41be-b582-698d39b265b8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing an assimilation strategy for new members of Calvary Baptist Church, Elizabethton, Tennessee"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:03:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:17:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8df29a00-ef59-4c1d-87d9-b4cb9a9aa7da"],"hasLease_ssim":["71dde055-5206-405c-b562-ed14a436cf53"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles E Lawless"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph S Sorah"],"publisher_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Assimilation (Sociology)","Tennessee","Church history","Church membership"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project describes the development of an assimilation strategy at Calvary Baptist Church, Elizabethton, Tennessee.
