There is a problem in the personal lives of contemporary ministers, which surfaces in the forms of addiction, burnout, infidelity, and such. At the root of the problem is a need for spiritual intimacy. This need merits an investigation and reflection on spiritual intimacy: definition of, challenges to, and a model for. The thesis of this study is that the beloved disciple is an appropriate model for the spiritual intimacy of pastors. The project tested the validity and application of the thesis through selected interviews of pastors. The method of research consisted of investigating the epithet the beloved disciple and the pericopes outlining his mentions in the text. In addition, other literary sources were consulted to determine the dynamics of Christian spirituality and the psychology of intimacy. The project engaged fifteen pastors--seven active and eight inactive--in a spiritual intimacy interview. The project probed the realities of the spiritually intimate life, through a juxtaposition of these ministers and the beloved disciple's spiritual intimacy model."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131606688202752,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:50:10.601Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:58:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:02:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7ad68b5d-c0c1-40ca-bf77-0e832dce2692","accessControl_ssim":["c6acff75-04ef-4ab0-8f8f-847fd837a53e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Eucharist in exile: sacramental celebration for the sake of the world"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:58:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:45:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2c1fc49c-9c51-468c-9c4a-e05f5ffd7f05"],"hasLease_ssim":["e74ac5b2-e744-43c9-b911-06874e58a6f3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Catherine Gunsalus González"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William O Gafkjen"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Lord's Supper"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The movement of mainline churches toward the margins of cultural and societal influence has created a missional situation for the North American church. After twenty-two months of implementing this model of discipleship it was found that time spent with these church leaders on an individual basis impacted their perceptions and beliefs about God and it helped to alter some of their lifestyle practices."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130745133072384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:36:28.958Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:58:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:13:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1cd50f26-2fbf-4f22-a04e-5910f9b882aa","accessControl_ssim":["21a5ac18-6bb7-4b44-8b08-c0772baa9ffc"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a strategy for the use of small groups at Crestview Baptist Church of Griffin, Georgia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:58:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:58:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f7160d0a-d292-41e1-985d-87621e3389c8"],"hasLease_ssim":["27a41886-6a16-401b-bee4-447909581b00"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["W Dan Parker"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Timothy E Riordan"],"publisher_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Baptist","Church group work","Congregations","Crestview Baptist Church (Griffin, Ga)","Organizational change"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project is to research the concept of small group ministry and apply appropriate principles to develop a strategy to use a small group ministry at Crestview Baptist Church of Griffin, Georgia. A startling number folks, after hearing hundreds of biblical sermons, still think they are saved by 'being good people.' Many Christians who sing 'Amazing Grace' with gusto, live functionally 'graceless' lives. Few people think grace when they hear the word church. This project aims to help preachers and Bible teachers who long to communicate grace in a way that transforms grace novices into a community of grace connoisseurs. This thesis suggest pastors begin with expository preaching. By basing each message on the central idea in each biblical text, a pastor fastens himself and his congregation to the message of grace. Next it suggests pastors make shalom, an Old Testament word describing the 'kingdom of God,' the target of every sermon. This single, unifying target provides the cohesive framework that forms years of sermons into one grace-full whole. The thesis then encourages pastors to understand their congregation's worldview, a way of answering what and how people think. A pastor who identifies and understands what his congregation believes about the alternatives to grace promoted in culture, can make his message clearer. Likewise, when a pastor understands how his congregation receives information he can communicate his message in a method clearest to their pattern of hearing. American culture has become so image-saturated that its main language is the language of images. In such a world, the rich variety of biblical images provides the optimal introduction and understanding of grace. Often preachers focus their sermons on changing a specific behavior of their audience. This thesis suggests that pastors can best build a culture of grace by aiming to change a congregation's worldview. Multiple sermons using multiple images helps individuals and an entire congregation learn to see people and circumstances gracefully."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131338317758464,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:45:54.664Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:58:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:22:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fd30c9ef-f579-4cc9-9845-98f717adc1e9","accessControl_ssim":["07b81317-3cc3-44c4-952d-67ff1e75626c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Searching for a congregation's sense of God's presence"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:58:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:22:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["54e310ff-fdd8-4464-b6bf-be99ddf408c8"],"hasLease_ssim":["7ad98cd4-88ce-4a94-90c2-8cd5e9863cb8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["D Cameron Murchison"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Patricia S Cashion"],"keyword_tesim":["Exile--Religious aspects"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Postmodernism","Exiles"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A pastor entering into a new call seeks to discover the theological biography of a 100-year-old congregation by using a life cycle assessment by Martin F. Saarinen and its author's subsequent suggestion for revitalization. In so doing, she hopes to discover 1) the congregation's kairos moments, 2) implications for present and future ministries, and 3) how her ministerial gifts can best be used. The project necessarily explored the difference between 'chronos' history and 'kairos' history and the definition of 'testimony' and 'witness' in terms of Post-modern Christianity and 'exile' images. The congregation was interviewed and surveyed in both group and individual settings over a period of 2 1/2 years by both an interim pastor and the new pastor. The subjective data gathered was explored along with recurring themes from the pastor's journal. A panel of pastor peers reviewed the work and found it to be consistent with their knowledge of and work with this particular congregation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129888027049984,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:22:51.559Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13083,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"Dissertation","hits":46,"label":"Dissertation"},{"value":"Thesis","hits":9,"label":"Thesis"},{"value":"D.Min.
