We define maturity as 'wholeness', with Jesus providing the example of wholeness. We develop four markers, stemming from Genesis, which describe the essential elements of our humanness. Through insights from systems thinking, we recognize the interrelationships between these markers. Key beliefs, habits, and character qualities are then added. We look at other churches and ministries that have also developed models for spiritual growth, and then discuss two specific tools which utilize our spiritual growth model. Finally, we look at the implications of our spiritual growth model for the postmodern church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132029195124736,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:56:53.536Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:56:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-04-10T21:41:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"00fd3609-a407-4ea8-af7a-0042ea2d01b2","accessControl_ssim":["c4b1befd-caeb-4c3d-81b7-c01cd0c36802"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The benefits of understanding and experiencing the historical geography of Israel"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:56:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-04-10T21:41:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7dfdd423-d96d-4947-a82a-c6b21d0ab18e"],"hasLease_ssim":["98250077-b1d7-4527-801a-3b4aeee3a1dc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles H Dyer"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"location_tesim":["Israel"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["D Wayne Stiles"],"keyword_tesim":["Description and travel"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Geography","Bible","Bible--Study--Methodology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation reveals that Christians who understand and experience the historical geography of Israel enjoy a clearer comprehension of the Bible, better direction in application, and more effective Bible teaching. This project reflects on the nature of community and relationships shaped by the covenant of grace. A primary premise of the project is that much confusion exists today about the nature of relationships, stemming from a misunderstanding of our relationship with God. Confusing covenant and contract leads to much disintegration and breakdown in churches and families. Clarifying the nature of God's relationship with His people should shed light on ways to develop a true covenant community and inspire true covenant marriages. The thesis begins with a discussion of the nature of today's culture and an examination of the history of West End Presbyterian Church. A survey of Thomas F. Torrance's thinking on the nature of the covenant of grace follows. The next chapter is a discussion of the structure of the ministry of the church in light of the covenant and culture. Chapter four explains the appendices. Chapter five looks at the future of West End Presbyterian Church in light of the covenant. The intention is to demonstrate that the creation of true covenant community is possible even in today's culture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130194654789632,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:27:43.982Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:55:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:22:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cf1f3969-5c08-415c-97e7-c8f71d3b0aad","accessControl_ssim":["f92097a0-073b-43aa-abff-b6d043052a11"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Introducing the adult catechumenate in a Lutheran congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:55:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:04:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4f7a1b8d-65d2-413b-b00d-30611b962aba"],"hasLease_ssim":["82361120-54ce-4160-a2c1-03097f478b3f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Saint Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Michael G Woost"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph F Rinderknecht"],"publisher_tesim":["Saint Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelical Lutheran Church in America--Catechisms","Lutheran Church","Spiritual life--Christianity","Communities--Religious aspects","Balthasar, Hans Urs von, 1905-1988"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Project introduces Adult Catechumenate to suburban congregation in Cleveland, Ohio. Methodical bible study focuses primarily on the English text, and in this study system, one learns how to observe, interpret, and apply the Bible to one's life and congregation. In the first step of observation, the pastor must slow down to really see what is in the text. He is trying to answer the question: what does the text say? Then comes the second step of interpretation. Now the preacher must use what has been observed in the text and begin to discover how it relates to life. He is trying to answer the question: what does the text mean? The third and final step is application. Here the preacher studies the information he has learned in the first two steps and must answer the question: how does this apply to the lives of the preacher and the congregation? The preacher then uses this information from methodical bible study and integrates it as part of sermon preparation. Developing bible study skills will ultimately help us to become more effective in proclaiming God's Word."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132934130892800,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:11:16.550Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:55:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:29:03Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2776b0ed-f846-4672-9cc9-7a76690fad53","accessControl_ssim":["f29a6f46-5d05-4f7b-acc4-22b3513efe4a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Smoky Mountain Children's Home: a model for house parent accession, training and development"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:55:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:17:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["042c5b98-4d68-4a6d-bfd2-9f260b366c47"],"hasLease_ssim":["510c5450-fedf-465f-8721-56e36e619538"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Raymond F Pendleton"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Rafael J Quiles"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Children--Institutional care","Smoky Mountain Children's Home (Sevierville, Tenn)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Smoky Mountain Children's Home is located in Sevierville, Tennessee. The home is a Church of God Cleveland, Tennesee institution established around 1921, originally for the purpose of caring, training, and educating orphans to be Christians and sensible members of society. The program functioned from a Christian, parenting perspective; however, the Home operated with a staff of house parents who were loving but professionally untrained. The need to develop a professionally trained house parent staff was deduced from the challenges brought on by the increased problems presented by the late twentieth and early twenty-first century child, as well as from the lack of a coherent on-site training program. The strategic point of meeting the modern needs of the children is to improve parenting skills in house parents. This is a paradigm shift from the children to the house parents as they carry out the mission of the Home. The new program establishes two stages: 1. The hiring and training of new house parents; 2. The on-going training program with the core based on the Common Sense Parenting program from Boys Town. The new professional training program is in its third year. The study deals with the question of relevance as the foundational question of homiletics preceding the question of application or sermon's effectiveness. Biblical relevance, according to the thesis of this project, is rooted in the character of God's word rather than the changing preference of the listeners. A primary premise of the work is the assertion that the question of biblical relevance commences with the biblical text. Consequently, the clues that the essential aspects of biblical relevance must be found within the biblical corpus. Analysis of the God's communication with people in the Bible yields two substantive conditions of relevance. The first condition of relevance is that the biblical content, expressing a biblical idea, asserts an imperative aimed at the volition calling it to a response in the context of our relationship with God. The second condition of relevance is that the biblical form, framing the idea, gives it coherence aimed at the human cognition with the goal of making the idea intelligible to the listener. These two conditions are both necessary and jointly sufficient conditions of biblical relevance in preaching. The thesis begins with the theological analysis of the dominant genres of the Old Testament and the New Testament seeking to extract the two necessary conditions of relevance. The theological study is followed by a historical/ philosophical analysis of the changing views of biblical relevance in transition form Modernity to Postmodernity. The last chapter of the thesis seeks to furnish a skeleton for the creation of biblical, relevant sermons."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132421243011072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:03:07.422Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13083,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"Dissertation","hits":46,"label":"Dissertation"},{"value":"Thesis","hits":9,"label":"Thesis"},{"value":"D.Min.
