Evangelism, church planting, and theological education are effectively transferring to Filipinos.  But spiritual formation and ministry skills need attention as second generation churches tend to stagnate.  Few missionaries minister to pastors after their formal training.  This research was done primarily through the case study of a local minister's fellowship which the author served as teacher and advisor for several years. It is written from the perspective of a local church pastor who addresses the struggle of making Christian maturity the goal of ministry.  It is based on the writings of the Apostle Paul, who considered the maturity of Christians the test of the quality of his ministry.  The primary question for a pastor is:  How will Christians develop toward spiritual maturity?  Four erroneous assumptions are addressed that can prevent growth to completion after conversion.  A spiritual theology of maturity is built on a study of Paul's use fo the term teleios.  Its etymology and usage are summarized to create a biblical theology of spiritual maturity.  Then it is interpreted through the lens of systems theory, which emphasizes the interrelationships and interactions in the processes of growth. A literature review adds a broader perspective of Pauline categories for growth and maturity in Christ.  Thus, a holistic view is offered which formulates the content and contexts necessary for development to maturity.  The thesis material is then reformatted in a manual that is useful for laypeople.  The series of lessons are formatted to provide an overview of Paul's view of maturity, while taking the persons through the processes of growth in Christ. Aristotle's science of literature, called Poetics, is a strategy for reading and interpreting scripture and for preaching that creates an encounter with God during which the people experience themselves as claimed by God for life in God's Kingdom.  The strategy identifies ways the drama of scripture imitates life through plot, language, characters, and reason. Through the faculty of imagination, the preacher interprets scripture using these poetic elements and transports the same into the sermon. These serve as a foundation for developing an integrated approach to counseling. The primary focus was on the role of the senior Pastor. The primary context was a seeker-oriented church, and was led by the pastoral staff more than by committee. It was concerned with he question of what leadership roles and actions would most likely lead to a successful capital campaign. A secondary question dealt with the theological implications related to fundraising in a local church. A primary premise of the work is that there is a strong correlation between the way the primary leader approaches a capital campaign and the effectiveness of that campaign. When the additional issues of a seeker-oriented philosophy are added to the mid, this correlation becomes even stronger. Strong leadership must be theologically driven. The thesis begins with a look at the important roles of the leader during a capital campaign and then explores the complications in a capital campaign for a church that is seeker-oriented. After a review of the literature, the thesis probes the theological issues related to fund-raising. the work includes a chapter defining and defending the case study methodology employed. The thesis then moves into a case study of the leadership of Ogden Church's capital campaign. The thesis concludes with a chapter that evaluates the case and gives suggestions for further study. Hundreds of teenagers were surveyed in an attempt to clarify the aspects of preaching that they find most effective. The research concludes that teenagers are extremely interested in the content and delivery of sermons, preached in the context of the communal worship service in the local church. With record numbers of men entering their mid-life years, the Church is facing a new challenge as a large number of its ministers are facing mid-life transition. This paper, 'The Effects of Mid-life Transition on a Man's Call to the Ministry,' examined the relationship between a man's mid-life transition and his earlier calling from God to the vocational ministry. The following questions served as the basis of the research: 1. What is mid-life transition in men? 2. What biblical and theological perspectives on calling are relevant to understanding the developmental effects of mid-life transition on the minister? 3. What impact does mid-life transition have upon a minister's sense of calling and ministerial identity? 4. What can be done to prepare and support men in ministry during their mid-life transitions? This study reviewed the pertinent literature on men and mid-life transition from secular and Christian perspectives with a concluding focus on men in vocational ministry. The theological framework of the relationship between one's calling and mid-life transition and the biblical, theological, and historical aspects of calling, ministry, and mid-life were examined. The methodology used for the exploratory study in interviewing ministers revealed several important themes which emerged: calling does not guarantee vocational clarity in mid-life, mid-life affects a man's understanding of his calling, community support affects calling, God is not necessarily an enemy during mid-life, and the important role of the spouse during mid-life. She shows how the Enneagram can be a useful tool for understanding how to preach to a diverse congregation and claims that preachers need to move beyond their own personality type and responses in order to be faithful in proclaiming the Gospel, particularly if they are the primary preaching voice in the congregation.
