The purpose of this project is to equip lay people for ministry at Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church. The research will measure the effectiveness of the 'Equipping Church Model' from The Equipping Church Guidebook, by Sue Mallory and Brad Smith. The effectiveness of the 'Equipping Church Model' was evaluated by using a researcher-designed survey that measured the congregation's understanding and experience of nine outcomes of the model. The research is an evaluation study in the experimental mode utilizing a pre-. mid-, and post-test design with no comparison group. Significant change was observed in all nine outcomes from pre- to mid- and post-tests. Spirituality is here defined as one's personal relationship to God. Jesus makes this very clear in his teachings in the New Testament. In chapters 5, 6, and 7 in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus shows how to live a personal spiritual life that affects the individual and the world. Christian leaders focus too often on programs and statements at the general level while trying to improve the ministry of the church, but goal setting and programs alone do not improve ministry if they do not reach individuals and set their hearts afire for the ministry they are called to do. The early church in the book of Acts attests to the importance of one's spirituality (Acts 2:42). The early church fathers and church reformers were deeply aware that if spirituality is to be found within the church it needs first to be found in the hearts of individuals who are responsible for ministry (Wesley, 'Wesley's Use' 63). Wesley particularly emphasized the importance of spirituality in the life of lay ministers. United Methodist ministry today and leadership of the local church are based on laity and clergy cooperation. United Methodist annual conferences and districts provide continuing education for clergy. One of the most important goals for district superintendents is to take care of the spiritual formation training for their pastors. Little spiritual training, however, is offered for local lay leaders, especially for those serving in small membership churches. This dissertation defends the view that spiritual formation instruction for lay leaders, based on a Wesleyan model, makes a difference. The Bible, prayer, Holy Communion, Christian conferencing, and fasting are still basics for personal spirituality."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134140750364672,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:30:27.271Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:08:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:33:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0310da57-3356-47ce-9cc4-2831eb33dbfd","accessControl_ssim":["ae6b45cb-97cc-40c5-94fb-cccd9309a906"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The development of appropriate patterned practices of Christian corporate worship for missional purposes: an applied project of the Kansas City North Oak Church of the Nazarene"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:08:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:12:20Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["13c0027f-1aa3-463f-becf-d66dc754c39a"],"hasLease_ssim":["f9ea5c82-cc60-47a5-9438-39089384ff5d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Nazarene Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Judith Schwanz"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Daniel J Steele"],"publisher_tesim":["Nazarene Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Worship","Kansas City North Oak Church of the Nazarene"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The church of Jesus Christ, as a part of the rule of God, worships God and is sent by God to be part of his missionally focused action in the world. The purrpose of this project was to explore and test the proposition that Christian corporate worship patterns and practices will shape and support the core value that the church is 'a Missional People' into the ecclesial practice of a missional church--a church for others. The research indicated that a missionally focused church demonstrates a consistency in: (1) A congregatinoal missional core value, (2) Missionally focused patterns and practices in corporate worship, and (3), Missionally focused ecclesial praxis. Without effecting style, there are many more possibilities and opportunities for missionally focused patterns and practices than even missionally focused churches are utilizing."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718370296201216,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:33:06.516Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:08:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:30:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4e1440aa-7fb0-440a-bd93-eaef18a1359f","accessControl_ssim":["80601c52-1bce-4ec7-b245-6553e42c6893"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The relationship between church health and church growth in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:08:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:25:33Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b918b92c-3137-4299-8f2d-0bd83a38fd99"],"hasLease_ssim":["598c0fe2-bf35-4031-8d95-37c4ceb96f31"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Leslie A Andrews"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Scott B McKee"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Presbyterian Church","Church growth","Evangelical Presbyterian Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this collaborative research project was to describe the relationship between church health and growth. Though that communication has sometimes fallen on deaf ears, the message has been delivered in multiple mediums. This history of the church has followed suit in attempting to communicate the unchanging message of the gospel into constantly changing cultures. In some eras the church has been more successful than others, but never has the medium of communication been unimportant. This study looks at the art of communication, giving particular attention to its given context and its use of multi-sensory venues to communicate the gospel. This project begins with a broad survey of some of the highlights of communication in culture, particularly related to the church. The review of literature then looks at the history of the way that God has communicated with His people throughout the biblical witness. Finally, this project studies the way that the church has attempted to communicate this good news to a world that changes. In this project, a methodology will be formulated to examine the best ways to use the expanding technologies to communicate the gospel today. Focus groups will be used to measure the effects of multi-sensory stimulants in worship. A secondary post-test will help determine the degree of response on three levels: cognitive, emotional and responsorial."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134465569849344,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:35:37.044Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13083,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"Dissertation","hits":46,"label":"Dissertation"},{"value":"Thesis","hits":9,"label":"Thesis"},{"value":"D.Min.
