Three aspects of interpreting the Bible are particularly emphasized.  The importance of gaining a bird's eye perspective of the Bible, laying out the hermeneutical principles for interpreting different genres of biblical literature, and encouraging lay leaders in the practices of spiritual disciplines.  This course was taught to over one hundred participants at Christ Community Church (St. Charles, Illinois) in the spring of 2002. A lack of engagement in ministry and fellowship provides opportunities for newcomers to fall away unnoticed.  A four-week course for new members was the heart of the program and required the project leader to design and acquire resources.  Church members and members of the staff provided assistance with the preparation, instruction, and execution of the program.  Each new member received information regarding the church, ministry opportunities, Baptist basics, and the Christian life. This method of theological reflection places Christian tradition, experience, and the resources fo culture in dialogue, suggesting a framework for discussing building and/or renovation of churches, as set forth in BLS.  A rationale reflecting a habitus of practical theology develops.  Pastoral strategies arise from this rationale. The questionnaire method was used among Asian Indian pastors to study certain areas of ministry and the level of networking with established churches.  This project analyzes some aspects of friendship evangelism and traditional methodologies, and will help readers understand Hinduism, biblical Christianity, cultural Christianity, Hindu cultural values and belief systems in order to remove misconceptions, biased feelings, and wrong attitudes. The most often expressed sources of disappointment for both groups were higher expectations of laity, 'politics,' and administrative demands. The project includes the results of questionnaires given to participants before, during and at the conclusion of a series of fourteen sermons given by the author from Romans 1-8. The underlying conviction of this thesis--that listeners are always co-creators of meaning along with the preacher in any sermon event--is based upon data collected during a three-year preaching project, and upon the work of a number of contemporary homileticians. The main thesis builds on the work of Fred Craddock who viewed the purpose of the sermon as 'getting something heard.'
