The project thesis answered the question in the affirmative: 'Restorative Justice's Family Group Conferencing is a practice of shalom.' The project was to test the thesis. This was done in two ways: (1) by comparing the author's study of shalom with Family Group Conferencing, and (2) by a theological committee of shalom experts' evaluation of Family Group Conferencing. The shalom experts represented theologians from world religions where shalom is an important concept: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Both the author's study and the theological committee's evaluation of Restorative Justice's Family Group Conferencing agreed that Family Group Conferencing is a practice of shalom. Based on a survey of biblical material, relevant scholarship and a survey of members of the First Baptist Church of Pendleton, South Carolina, this project demonstrates that keeping the Sabbath is essential for remembering the identity and carrying out the mission of followers of Jesus. Nine pastors were surveyed and interviewed to discern their theological visions and leadership strategies in light of a theology which sees God's church sent on a mission. The research discloses that leadership factors include a passionate outreach oriented vision that is cast in a way which embeds the vision in the culture of the growing congregation. Over a six week period the author explored the retirement experiences of nine retired clergy. The design of the sessions included the components of Groome's shared Christian praxis. A continuous assessment method was used to track the spiritual needs of clergy identified in the sessions. The author concluded that retired clergy need the support of the church during the developmental transition into retirement. The thesis of this project is that the shared praxis approach can be a catalyst for congregational leaders to discern God's will. During an eight-week workshop based on the shared praxis approach, congregational leaders prayed, read scripture, meditated,and discussed what it meant to seek the kingdom of God in the hope of discerning God's will for the congregation's corporate mission and direction. The hypothesis was that through the design of a new, required course, focused on serving as a 'rite of passage' into seminary, new students could have a more hospitable experience of making the transition into the seminary community. The model used was an education model focused on hospitality as a theological practice. Yet in today's church, conversations about personal finances are infrequent. This project focuses upon a particular congregation, Church of the Saviour in Washington, D.C., where individuals do share the details of their personal finances, including income, assets, and giving patterns. Through interviews, the factors are explored which have led to this openness around money. Using his highly acclaimed novel Silence, and his smaller work  A Life of Jesus, I convened a small reading group that engaged these literary texts specifically to challenge their images of Jesus. From this, study sheets were designed relating said information to the Eucharist.  Surveys were also created, to be administered both before and after instruction, to determine if a student had been given a heightened appreciation for the Lord's Supper.  After teaching and surveying three classes, the surveys were statistically analyzed to determine the validity of the thesis.
