The project employed the Death Anxiety Scale (Nehrke modification) in a pretest and posttest format to measure changes in the level of fear and anxiety in these patients. Evaluation found that 75 percent of the patients experienced relief of fear and anxiety, while fear and anxiety increased in 19 percent. Proclamation of law exposes the hearer's sinfulness and need of a Savior.  Proclamation of gospel reveals Jesus as Savior, offering forgiveness and salvation to all who believe. Five congregations (United Methodist, United Church of Christ, Baptist, nondenominational, and Disciples of Christ) from Chicago and Lansing, Michigan, studied current trends in stewardship, salaries and benefits for clergy and lay staff, and outreach ministries.  The project developed new stewardship programs to encourage these congregations to re-establish themselves as servants to their communities. The project summarizes and analyzes official documents issued in 1963-1994, and then presents principles, patterns, and behaviors of human communication. From this research the project derives a taxonomy of preaching abilities undergirded by Alverno College's approach to assessment, including a sophisticated listener-response instrument. This project develops an elder training program based on current Australian attitudes toward leadership in society and the church, in order to prepare elders who are spiritually mature, pastorally effective, and culturally acceptable in the Australian context. The project evaluated the effectiveness of the CPE program at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Long Beach, California, considering benefits--spiritual, educational, and financial--for each group involved in the medical center. By using CPE students in its medical centers the Department of Veterans Affairs could provide an effective spiritual ministry at relatively little cost to the institution.  The project administered a questionnaire to 110 patients, chaplains, medical center employees, and CPE students, seeking to measure perceived benefits of a CPE program. More than 70,000 persons visited the church in 1995, and its varied use by community groups and agencies, its status on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980, and its preparation to become a National Historic Landmark are indications that the 15 September 1963 bombing of the church has changed its ministry.
