Will they be able to live more consistently as Christian disciples in the world? This project seeks to answer these questions a pretest/posttest questionnaire administered to 68 laypersons.  The experimental group of 34 persons received six hours of theological instruction. The control group of 34 persons received no instruction. This project presents a six-week Bible study for parents in which group participants identify role models and biblical values, measuring them against formative family stories, and offer one another mutual support as Christian parents. Bible texts include Gen 1:26-31; Deut 6:4-13; Isa 46:1-13; 2 Sam 7:1-17; Lk 15:11-32; Rom 3:9-12,21-31; Gal 3:25-28; Phil 1:3-11. The study and seminar are limited to critical biblical texts commonly used to support this position, and the historical roots of this notion. The project discusses definition of terms, church standards, traditions, gender concerns, and Christian principles, and concludes that the SDA church has no biblical basis for its teaching on this issue. Nineteenth-century cultural norms and inherited church traditions have influenced the church's position. The project in particular examines the CRC's need to fulfill the 'Great Commission'--a study that can be applied to other denominations.  The project describes in detail the theological conflict between recent traditional Reformed missiology and evangelistic necessity.  This conflict provides a breeding ground for complacency and inwardness, and it further retards the mission that the church intends to promote. Using current literature and especially from the Bible and church history, the project conducts interviews with selected persons and compares regulations on marriage and divorce among various denominations, in order to formulate a new theology of marriage and divorce for KEHC and other denominations for the 1990s. Christianity and its Eucharist are Euro-American cultural exports not identified with Japanese or Asian culture and images. This project examines the need for Christianity to identify and become indigenous with Japanese and Asian culture.  The project demonstrates how the Chanoyu (Tea Ceremony), which best represents Japanese culture and spirituality and which has been used in Japanese Christian history, can become the Japanese Eucharist. The project examines recent cultural and denominational reviews of individualism, investigates connectivity in the Book of Acts, interviews pastors and reports recent models of connectivity.  Based on these findings, the project presents resolutions and four models from the early church, documenting the rise of extreme individualism in culture and churches.
