Participants grow spiritually and a deeper relationship among participants evolves.  For four years the author invited laypersons into the sermon process.  Laypersons researched and studied texts on their own, and group reflection produced preaching  material.  A high degree of spiritual and intellectual growth was evident among the laypersons invited into the process. The research targeted a specific geographic area using several forms of mass marketing to promote the church within the targeted area, and then counted the number of persons who attended for the first time. Six members of the congregation organized a five-year program of support for the medical mission, beginning with hypertension screening for 300 persons over a six-month period and supplies of medication for persons diagnosed by the program. The project is theologically grounded in the holistic and ecclesiological nature of the mission of God. Innovations that may increase effectiveness may be planned and implemented when small task groups are empowered to lead these processes.  Nine church leaders concentrated on assimilation of prospective members.  At the end of one year, evaluation revealed that 49.3 percent of first-time visitors to the church had assimilated to the point that they identified the church as their church of attendance or belonging. This project promotes recovery through church awareness, growth/support groups, and a cognitive/behavioral interactive workbook. Almost 50 percent of the project group members experienced varying degrees of improvement of codependent symptoms.  This result was confirmed by inventories, an evaluation form, interviews with the Project Director and a consultant, and the consultant's evaluation of all the data.
