Since that time, there has been little or no thought given to the subject.  This project seeks to explore the relationship between theology and play while addressing the question: Why does the church seem so reluctant to play?  An overview of play theology is presented including the thought of Huizinga, Moltmann, Keen, Berryman, and Johnston.  A discussion of psychological play theory is included considering the work of Freud, Piaget, Sutton-Smith, and Winnicott.  This overview shows both common points of understanding as well as important distinctions in play theory.  A new perspective of play is offered that focuses on the idea of God as the initiator of play as an act of grace and on human play as an appropriate response to that grace.  This new perspective presupposes a theology of love and freedom rather than fear and control. The many contributions of Glenn Bannerman are examined. As a practitioner rather than theorist, Bannerman embodies the new perspective of play in his methods and actions. Two questionnaires were used in a quantitative analysis: Parental Bonding Instrument (modified), and the Valuegenesis survey. The findings revealed that bonding factors for Adventist young people can be determined.  A reliable bonding scale was constructed from six items measuring commitment to Jesus, religious faith, the local congregation, and the denomination as well as frequency of attendance at worship services.  The scale had a reliability alpha of .81 with item scale correlations ranging from .45 to .72. Adults once distanced from the church have an open door to the church provided them as well as a new place for service and participation.  Children of diverse ages are provided both a new forum for active participation and a time for worship. All those involved are given a new context in which to participate in the narrative message of the gospel which claims seekers and believers in ways which nurture faith and stimulate the enterprise of raising children with biblical faith.  This event, called church school worship, meets contemporary social and religious needs especially prevalent among baby boomer parents. It can serve as a vital and creative tool within a comprehensive family ministry of a local congregation. The local church should be the center for counseling and the pastor should supervise the counseling ministries under his authority.  There should be training for counseling ministries and the gifts of the Spirit are an integral part of them.  Method of research was a technique centered study with a focus on methods, models and programs used in counseling.  There were interviews with pastors, professional counselors and lay counselors.  There was an analysis of the history of the psychiatric hospitals in America established by the Mennonite Church.  There were also many case studies done by the author.  Much of the counseling is being done by Mennonite professionals and is mostly secular in content.  Some counseling is done by lay persons one-on-one and in small groups. Some pastors do biblical counseling and there are some congregational counselors. My surveys, after analysis, determined the leadership expectations of the organization's parishioners and the pastors' knowledge of leadership pre- and post-seminar.  My research described situational leadership model and biblical principles of leadership.  I synthesized both models to achieve the 'synthetic leadership paradigm' and compared the situational leadership to Diokpara leadership legacy.  The project was taught in a seminar.
