It examines the use of persuasive techniques in the preaching of the prophets, Jesus, and Paul.  It examines the differences between positive persuasion, manipulation, and propaganda.  It reviews the process of intentional persuasion in preaching.  Two original sermons are presented, not as models, but as attempts to use the intentional processes recommended by the literature.  The sermons were evaluated by the author's congregation and reviewed by a listening group of nine members. The research project consists of eight parishioners' responses to six imagistic sermons. The researcher concludes that the use of image plays a significant role in the transformation of the hearers and the preacher.  He suggets that while the use of images is one key in the transformational process, opportunity for sermon reflection is also important. The study was conducted in selected independent churches across the country who had reported success with outreach to African-American males. In all, 558 males were surveyed and interviewed.  Data collected from this study revealed that churches that were reaching African-American males offered strong male leadership, relevant Bible teaching, and men's fellowship groups, and were intentional in their outreach to African-American males. Results indicated that this ministry, as developed, has a central and identifying character in the parish and surrounding community. Ninety-one subjects were given the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and randomly divided into two groups composed of approximately equal members of SJs, NFs, NTs and SPs.  Group 2 viewed soundless videos of five sermon illustrations which had one central emotion while Group 1 viewed the same five videos with a pulpit superimposed in front of the preacher. This has been done by surveying traditional (pre-boomer) missionaries and present-day boomers. Questionnaires were used to determine the differences and similarities between the identified influences and concerns that pre-boomer missionaries had and that present-day boomers have concerning missionary service. A group of young adults was brought together to model this reclaiming.  This was done through reading articles, watching movies, and especially through sharing the lives and stories of ordinary Barbadian folk.  The youth reported a tremendous awakening of themselves as spirtual beings. There was a greater sense of self-worth, especially relating from their inheritance as blacks. This project was designed to investigate the adult-learning literature and then produce a computer-based Bible study program that would interest and motivate the user to further investigation of the Bible's contents and message. The adult-learning literature survey yielded significant principles that were applied to the formulation of scripts and storyboards for a computer learning system called 'Tune in the Bible.'  This computer program was produced using the IBM development software, 'Linkway Live!'  Twelve participants were employed to review and evaluate the content, effectiveness, and operation of 'Tune in the Bible.' A survey instrument was administered prior to and following their use of the program. Many aspects of the adult-learning model can be successfully transferred to a computer-based learning system. While theological belief is relatively high, active participation in churches is relatively low in this city (comparing national studies). The case study research method was utilized in this thesis to analyze the effectiveness of a non-denominational church planting (Christ's Church) in Amarillo, Texas to reach unchurched baby boomers.  It was determined that the church planting reached many in this target group and that it is an effective means of assimilating the unchurched into the Body of Christ.
