This is true of Lutheran liturgical worship.  In this project/dissertation the writer made a historical search of relevant documents and administered exams to test improvement.  The writer's conclusion was that great value exists in retaining the traditional worship forms. An effort to build a trust relationship had to begin.  To accomplish this, the congregation had to understand the pastor in certain images. These images, servant, child, friend, and partner, would be topics of sermons describing the congregation and pastor. This understanding would assure the acceptance of pastor and congregation.  The enlistment of a small response group of church members and a spiritual mentor proved to be helpful. In this project/dissertation the writer has constructed a research of the married life of participants and administered an experiment for nine weeks. The methodology in this project to measure the improvement of the marriage enrichment was for the experimental and control groups to take two tests: a pre-test before the program, and a post-test three months after the end of the program. A study was made of the literature available concerning the theological underpinnings, curriculum and current programs. A self-help support group in the parish setting would assist in giving the needed support.  The author made use of her own experiences in leading cancer support groups, the resources of the Christian faith, and the results of a pilot cancer support group conducted in a church setting to write a guide for establishing such support groups in a parish setting.  Very strong bonding within the pilot support group occurred. A survey instrument was used to determine the validity of this thesis.  The survey did not prove this thesis but did indicate the declining use of the itinerate evangelist.
