It argues that Christian community is not the effect of faith in God, but is the manifestation of that faith.  The author makes the case for a relational faith.  Theology rather than psychology or sociology is the basis for understanding congregational life.  A planning group assessed the needs of this congregation.  A set of proposals was generated.  They included retreats, meals, a photo directory, etc.  A questionnaire was used for evaluation. A group of 12 'pilgrims' looked at faith development theories and what it means to become a mature person of faith, shared spiritual autobiographies, engaged in self-discovery through the Myers Briggs Type indicator, explored new mission opportunities, developed our own patterns of prayer, and clarified assumptions about how to study the Bible. Using a study group of church leaders, this project affects the ministry vision of church members to students.  In eight learning sessions, church leaders studied demographic changes in the student population, revealing that the established concept of the ages, needs, and goals have changed drastically.  After surveying ministry needs and opportunities, church leaders presented their findings to the congregation. First Baptist Church (Henderson, Kentucky) heard a series of sermons on prayer and attended a prayer seminar.  In addition to these, a selected small group studied various aspects of private prayer during seven weekly meetings.
